Longboards on a plane (question, not a movie)

I am leaving tomorrow for Ireland for two weeks. I want to bring my longboard with me to ride, My question is can i bring it on. I wanted to know what you guys have done because lots of NSers longboard and travel. I have an original apex 37. 37 meaning 37 inches, cabin space is above the seat is 55 inches. I am flying from JFK  to Shannon on Aer Lingus.

I see people bring strollers on plane, how could this be any different, right?

when i was flying back from whistler i took the trucks of and put everything in my ski bag. maybe you could bring an extra bag just for your longboard? i doubt they would let you take it on incase you were crazy and started hitting people with it haha

you usually can.  i would take the trucks off and put em in your bag, and then just carry the deck either in hand or in your backpack if you are bringing one.  it all depends on how much of an asshole the TSA agent inspecting your shit is, but they usually allow it.  also check your airline's website.  they usually have lists of stuff you can/cant bring.

they said it depends on who is letting you through and how i appear. I won't be wear my turbin tomorrow then. They had no written rule, so it depends. How have you guys gone on planes with a longboard.

My dad said he won't pay for extra baggage fees and i'm broke

you definately could, but i guess maybe take the trucks off since its a longboard
i brought my skateboard on a plane before with trucks and everything and just put it on the cabin compartment

I think I have seen people strap them on their backpack and just walk around with it in the airport.

i bring mine on all the time and its always fine. you can usually put it in the overhead compartments and if not they just take it and put it like, inbetween 1st class and the regular seating.

but ive never brought it overseas but i doubt it will be any different

they allow you one bag a personal item

shouldnt be a problem

if you still have your doubts, you could ship it over
it'd get there in 6-10 days for 35 dollars
but that be out of the budget

^^^Ya I brought my skateboard on a plane this spring break and it was fine, but it was in my carry on, I don't know about takign a carry on AND a skateboard though.

Yes you can bring it on a plane. Ive been traveling every summer with a skateboard for about 6 years. My brother brought his longboard last year too and they didn't care.

It shouldn't be a problem.

i travel back and forth in the summer with my skateboard and have never had a problem i would imagine your going to be fine with your longboard expecialy if you already called ahead

Carry it on as hand luggage, when onboard ask one of the cabin crew if they could stick it in the coat storage.

i made it through no problems. The guy checking passports at security started talking to me about how he love original trucks, he was too busy talking to me that 2 people went past him with out getting there passports checked

i've never had a problem with bringing my skateboard from the US to Germany but bringing it from europe to the US has never worked... for some reason the europeans think its a weapon and they don't want you lugging it around in their airports. so for the trip there you can bring it normally but on the way back you might want to gather up some cash and pay for taht 2nd piece of luggage.

If you can bring a guitar on a plane, you can bring a longboard.  Both are roughly the same size.

i brought my 46 incher in a ski bag. If you cant do carryon just bring a duffle bag or something.

Southwest's Policy is as follows:
Skateboards are allowed as carryons. If the skateboard fits under the seat, it does not need to be in a bag or covered, but it does have to be stowed with the wheels up so that it doesn't roll. If stowed in an overhead bin, a skateboard must be stowed with the wheels up and needs to be in a bag or have the wheels covered (trash bag is acceptable) so as not to damage other articles.

Even if you are flying on a different airline, if you follow this^ you should be good.

just checked the airline website and this is what they said.
I guess they really don't care.

Baseball and softball batsClubs or batons - rigid or flexible - e.g. Billy clubs, blackjacks (truncheon of leather covered lead with flexible shaft), night sticks & batons.Cricket BatsGolf clubsHockey and Hurley sticksLacrosse sticksKayak and Canoe paddlesSkateboardsBilliard, snooker and pool cues.Fishing rodsMartial arts equipment e.g. knuckle dusters, clubs, coshes, rice flails, num-chucks, cubatons, kubasaunts.

i came home today and when i was walking through security they guy checking my boarding pass tells me it is illegal to bring that on the plane. I am pissed had to check it. It came in like 30 minutes after my other bag and there was a big chung out of the top of the deck and lots of scratches and chunks out of the board all over. I am really pissed now, and i am got a bad cold on the plane ride so now i can't talk, that was one of the worst flights i had been on.

I carry my skateboard all the time. I've taken a skimboard from cali to colorado. The steward usually takes the board and puts in somewhere else on the plane. Just be super polite

thanks, and to add to the day, this is the hottest day this year so, i go from the pleasantly cold to the uncomftorably hot and humid NY weather. Just a two more months and it starts to get cold again!

The board will be fine it just looks like, i treat it like shit
