Skimboarding

I was on vacation this past week and I brought my skimboard and i went to the beach like every day and just skimboarded for hours straight. I had some tricks on lock and was just having a really sick time. I think its pretty tight what do you guys think?

Me and my girlfriend always walk down the beach shore and always see skimboarders, and me and her both longboard and are adventerous and outdoorsy. We both want to try skimboarding cuz it looks so sick. And i got a few friends who do it. The next town over is right on the beach and everybody there skimboards. But i just dont got like 120+ to get a decent skimboard.

I have a victoria woody. I completely shit on the fiberglass on the bottom. It rained hard a few days ago and the street was flooded so I decided to take it on that. I need a better one anyways

what tricks can u do? i can shuvit pretty much every time. popshuvit occasionally and 360 shuv in good conditions only. i dont do the little butter spins since i think theyre gey...

some guy like 2.5 hours from where i live makes skimboards. he has like a hydraulic press to make them and everything, i don't live near any beaches though so i have only tried it once or twice

because my skim board is an absolute piece of shit (after a day session of jibbing some flat rock in the sand), with massive cracks in it and such, I cannot ride into deeper water and get on top of waves. I like shove-its, switch shove-its, hand drags in the sand with a lot of spins, and some various grabs. Next year i'll be picking up a better board so I can shred some waves.

i live in utah and skim in mexico and cali quite a bit, its super fun. i just do mostly gay sand sliding tho, since we dont hit up any good skim beaches really, but just skimmin is super fun, like big spins and stuff

sick to hear that there are some skimmers on newschoolers.  I ride a Victoria polyvac, which is a pretty sick board.  My bro dropped around 500 on an Exile board last summer, haven't seen him ride it yet, but Exiles are so sick, I just can't drop that much on skimming.  I'll be skimming pretty much the entire month of August in Cali.  Still perfecting my wraps and wave riding but I can catch and ride liners both ways usually.  Solid shove its, sometimes popshuvits, and I've landed like two 360 shuvits flatland on an irrigated field.  Skimmings gnarly though, guys get freakin rallied all the time, ie. the Wedge in Newport, holy shit dude. . .

my bro and I went to the World skim championships in laguna a couple summers ago, like skiing the pros aren't exclusive at all, you can just go right up and talk to them.  Before that we were at the wedge watching Paulo Prietto skim, so sick dude.  Wedge was freaking exploding, Paulo and a couple other guys were geting barreled everytime, and then rallied on the sand, but hey it was sick.  Skimmings definitely not for any bitches, guys take a beating.

i bought a board down in florida this year at spring break. it was mad fun. pretty easy to get used to but there is almost an endless possibility of tricks to do. its pretty awesome, definitely a A+ in my book.

To whom ever said they hope skimming gets bigger... that is the last thing the sport needs (unless you are one of the 3 people who build boards for a living).  Skimming is a fringe sport that is fun and quirky because it isn't the popular overcrowded sport of surfing.  Levin's video is awesome but that doesn't represent what skimboarding is for the 99% of people that skim...

totally agree with the guy above me.  what makes it cool is that its so unique.

anyways, i skim in new england, mostly CT/ RI.

I started a few years ago, bottom line is that CT skimming sucks for waves and is only good for flatland

Now i go to rhode island a lot and I love it!  I can only do wraps and stuff, but i'm getting bettter.

If anyone has any pointers, I seem to be having trouble getting out to the larger waves which are farther out there.

tried to get down to that but no could do with work. It must have been sick cause there was actually some waves on the webcam, unlike the years before. I ride a vic poly and my claim is a big spin and 540 shuvs on fly aways. Skate tricks are cool but wraps and big fly aways are so damn fun

run fast as hell, one stepping helps, back foot first on the board, and when ur in deeper water try to get ur weight on the board as even as u can. Ur trying to hydroplane over the water and if u watch a good skimboarder or a pro in a video they make almost no wake at all on the way to the break. U can try pumping the board too, or turning ur board parallel to the waves on the way out but that only works if it's smooth between each wave. Mostly, it's just running like the ccops are chasing u and not slowing down when u drop ur board

skimboarding's dope for sure.
both kinds are sick in they're own way.  I live in van so they'res no waves but the flatwater skimming is still dope as.

do the skimboards with grips and the ones made for wave riding still good on flatland? I enjoy doing both its just wouldn't it be harder to spin on a more narrow board?

No "foam"  boards ie the ones with the pads are not good for flat land.  The rocker, shape, etc is very specific for wave riding.  In addition they are not nearly durable enough for flatland... you want a board with a very hard bottom and rails that will hold up to the increased bottom friction and rails.

yea, i can turn the board sideways and pump too, but i can't seem to perfect the back foot first method. i always feel like i'm going to stumble, trip over my board and eat it.

Try to drop when you're stepping with your left foot of you're regular vice versa if goofy. And practice on grass or carpet.

And to the person who asked about my square, i like it a lot it has a ton of float but slower turning. Go to skimonline.net/forum/ and search square skimboards, there's a ton of info on them.
