Anti verus for mac?

So I am getting my macbook this week and this is my first mac. I know that people say that you never get any verus with macs but I know that you can still get some. So my question to mac owners is should I get an antiverus with my mac or should I run my computer without one ? Thanks and + k

YES you can get virus with macs, anyone that says you cant are fucking idiots. theres about 4 big name ones out there but its unlikely that you will get one. With the growing popularity of macs its most likely that there will be more of them on the rise, so it would be smart to get some sort of virus protection just to be safe. Ive had my macbook pro for 2 and half years now without virus protection and have not had any problems at all. thats with downloading shit tons of movies and music from torrents where youd typically get viruses. So its all up to you whether you risk it or wanna just be on the safe side and not have to worry.

It's not so much the popularity of macs so much as the platform that they are built on and security systems already built in which make it very difficult for a progam builder to create a virus that gets it's way onto the computer without the owners consent. Just make sure what you are installing is always what you think it is, you always have to put your password in before you install something, and it will always question you if you want to run a prog that came from the tinterwebz so you should be fine.

agreed, but they're still plenty hackable and the fact that they make up such a small amount of personal computers is definitely a valid reason as to why there aren't a lot of mac viruses.

that being said, I have clamXav (available here: http://www.clamxav.com/), which is free and all that good stuff.

viruses are programmed, so u have windows notepad, get the programming for the os (leopard or ms or wutever), send out an app for that os n tweak it so when u use the app in a certain way it releases the wrong execution or wutever the programmer is looking to mess around with, and, since macs are getting more popular, u will see more bad programmers attempting to reach all u silly masses who think one button is easier than the left-right click
