Food Inc. SEE IT!

If you've heard of the movie Food Inc., go see it, and if you haven't heard about it, go see it! It's a documentary about the food industry in America, and it really made me stop and think, more than a movie has in a long time. It talks about the giant monopolies that control most of our food, how quality is no longer important, and how all of it has remained hidden from the public, but I couldn't accurately describe it, so check out the website for the movie.


also, check out the trailer. i would advise anyone to see this movie, it was very well done.

My history teacher turned our whole year of American History into why America sucks, ie our food "system", selfishness,blindness. It was fun to realize how much we suck.

just saw this movie today.. everybody needs to watch it. It brings up so many good points about how we basically just eat whats presented to us without ever questioning its source. It was also really cool to see that sustainable, humane farming is not only possible but profitable. Hopefully the majority of the population wakes up enough to really see some change happen in the food industry.

just watch a michael moore movie, he makes the audience think what he wants by manipulating clips to change their meanings and show things in a bad light. Food Inc. wasn't terrible though, I thought it was pretty good, didn't quite get the whole way through it though

Many of the claims in this movie have been made before by 2 of the guys speaking throughout the movie. Michael Pollan being one of them has always backed up his claims and you can check out his books for yourself.

Its too bad that as a nation we are so uneducated about where our food comes from and what it goes through to get to us.

Not to mention that our cheap food is based upon cheap oil and that when oil goes up so does the cost of food.

food inc is a great documentary. definitely worth watching. also check out The Cove. It doesn't have too much to do with the food industry but is a hell of a film. It's all about how some japanese people slaughter dolfins and try to cover it up. It's shocking and moves along faster than Food Inc.

in Moore's bowling for columbine he makes Charlton Heston look like a complete asshole at the NRA convention that was held in Colorado shortly after the Columbine incident by shortening the clip to make it seem that Heston was there to piss off the residents who didn't want them there. The full clip is Heston talking about how the NRA is already there with its members in the community and that the meeting had been scheduled before the columbine events.

its crazy to think about what you actually eat. and yea its a really good movie but it made me not want to eat anything processed for a solid week. i got over that pretty quickly but still, you eat scary stuff.

To tell you the truth its gotten better. Read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and you'll be glad that your living now instead of in the past. He talks about how employees at the meat packing factory would fall into the meat grinder yet they would still process the meat. Now thats some nasty shit.

just saw this the other night. corn is the freakin multi-tasker of the food world. the amount of crap that goes on behind the scenes of the junk we eat is really disturbing. I found it funny how there was more strict watch on the food industry 50 years ago then now.

Go around a meat packing town and look at the people who are missing body part.
How about the fact that the government can shut down a plant or force a recall of contaminated beef.
After the Jungle was published the government cleaned up the beef industry and standards kept improving untill the government gave up control over the industry and now we are moving backwards instead of forwards.

Gotta let you guys in on a FUN, TASTY AND HEALTHY nugget I just discovered, thanks to my friends mom, who is a nurse.

Organic soy milk: healthy, relatively cheap (2.69 for a half gallon) and so damn good. I swear it tastes better than normal milk.

If you liked that book read some of Michael Pollans stuff. He's got the Omnivores dilemma, in defense of food, and a new one that im not sure on the title for. But the first two are really good reads with lots of good ideas.

Well from my knowledge of working in the food industry I know that company's have been enforcing strict guidelines on the quality checks of the food, at least at my job. I work at Einstein Bagels and we have to do a quality check on the food every hour which involves taking the temperature of every item, making sure that everything is fresh, sanitizing the counters literally every moment we get, etc... We devised a system where we place stickers on all of our prepped food and if that sticker is on the day before its expiration than we'll through it away. Its real easy for some one to put a law suit on your ass for contaminating your food so we must prevent any form of contamination.

Bagel boy your talking about a restaurant the gov can shut your ass down. Meat Packing plants on the other hand the gov has no control over them.

Oh and you are dealing with low risk foods you really dont have to do a whole lot.

Now if you want to talk tedious Ive had to write up HACCP plans for recipes and ENFORCE them at work.

And please never consider yourself in the industry till you have actually been in the industry.

sadly this movie is best labeled as propaganda...or a promotion for capitalism.

america's food industry is safer, and better regulated than anytime in history or anywhere else in the world.  Virtually every ingredient used has been subject to heavy safety testing and usage levels are heavily regulated.  Pesticides are regulated by finding the minimum level that can induce ill effects and then setting the legal maximum around a 1000 times lower than that.  Every commercial slaughter facility in the country cannot operate without a USDA operator on hand to ensure safety and humanity. 

large corporations control the majority of the market because they were able to figure out the products consumers want at the best price.  As for the food industry trying to influence new laws; find any major industry that doesn't do that, they're called lobbyists.

and to the kid who likes organic milk; it is pasteurized hotter than regular milk, resulting in the destruction of a greater number of spoilage microorganisms (for longer shelf life), and also more caramelization of the sugars (leading to a taste difference).  Unfortunately this higher pasteurization means greater destruction of vitamins...meaning organic milk is actually slightly less good for you than the regular stuff
