New to CT

Im originally from ny and my home mtn was mountain creek. I mean i did take trips to killington and stratton but mainly (sadly) new jersey was where i had my pass.  Now im in groton ct, which is like south eastern ct.. What mtn has the best deals or usually opened first.  From what i understand mt snow is only like 3 hours away. Any suggestion from any new englanders??

Ya mount snow is a blast and definitely the closest large mountain. You could get there in less than 3 hours for sure. They have pretty good promo deals for passes and fun events.

no I live in southern n.y it takes me 3 hours 15 min to get to snow. a nice park in ct is sundown there shit is legit.

Sundown is a blast. But, I'm going to guess Mt Southington will be closer to where you are.

how can you say "sadly" you only had a pass to mtn creek? mtn creek is one of the funnest mountains with one of the best parks on the eat.

yeah, Mount Snow has military discounts and is better than the mtns in CT and mass, but its definitely a little bit of a drive

actually the jumps at sundown have been really nice the past couple years and kinda on the bigger side of things. they have a 40 and 50 foot step down 2 years ago and a 50 foot step up this past year. usually have at least 20 rails/boxes set up too. you should check out loon/waterville in new hampshire. they might be closer to you than snow. not positive though.

Jarrod does a killer job of building and maintaining the park(s) at Sundown, so if you feel like riding locally you should definitely check that out.  If you're in college, Mt. Snow's college pass is only $300.  If not, it's probably the closest larger mountain you'll find, it's about as far south in Vermont as you can get.  Plus everyone there is super cool and Carinthia speaks for itself.

I ski at Southington because it is closer to me than Sundown and my dad is a ski instructor there so I go for free.  Southington will definitely be closer, I have never been to Sundown but I heard their park was legit.  Southington is fun.  They usually open around the 10th of December.  If you get a pass in September it is like $400.  Night skiing is fun at Southington though, especially after it snows, which happened alot last season.  I will be at UVM so I will only be at Southington from around Christmas through the 20th of January and then a week in March for Spring break.  PM me if you end up going to Southington though.

Loon and Waterville are farther away.  I live just north of New Haven and it only takes around 2 hour to get to Mount Snow and around 3-3.5 to Loon.  Loon is a hard ride, you have to go through the Kangamangus Highway which can be a bitch if it is snowy.

hit up sundown, everyone there is nice, noone steals your shit, and if it happens, people will back you up, and plus, the park is sick and theres a ton of skiers.  sundown>southington.

na man from were im at pawling it take like 3 15 a little less a little more, depending on what way you go but if drive 91 up it taks an hour just to get over there, thats the pain in the ass part, even though heas all the way out in ct its def easer to get to 91 from groton so yea it should take you right around 3 hours to get to snow, good day trip

yea but he said groton, ct which is close to RI and definitely a good deal east of you, which he will have to drive first in order to get the 2 hour drive from the new haven area. So im thinking its gonna be about 3 hours or maybe a little less either way. And loon is right off exit 32. your on the KANC. for about 2 minutes. so not sure how you get to loon but not a bad ride at all

yeah man i was figuring 3 hours, im 45 minutes east of new haven so that would make sense. but on mapquest its saying 3 hrs from new haven as well. Who knows, if it says 3 i'll be there in 2 and a half anyway, i'm not sweating it.

yea good call, map quest goes the speed limit the whole way and usually sends you round about ways. You should check out wahchusett as well. probably murdered the spelling of that but it should save you some time on going to VT and definitely up to NH
