  so as of now i am growing my hair out, and im planning on getting some dreads. just wondering if anyone knows the best minimum length to get dreads, also if anyone has any tips, pics etc. please share. But need to add negative bullshit, just dont

grow your hair at least an inch past your shoulders before you get started..and buy some dread wax, a dread comb, and the shampoo all obtainable through this site. http://www.dreadlocks.com/

Definitely wait till your hair is shoulder length. Anything shorter just looks stupid.

Anyway, there's a ton of information about dreads on the internet, just search around. Read like 3 or 4 sites and you'll have all that you really need to know. The stylist who dreads your hair will tell you the rest.

Also, if I were you, I'd go to a professional. If you really plan on keeping these for a year or two you want them started properly so you don't have any issues in the long run. A friend of mine had an amateur do his locks and after a month he was through with them because they were so much upkeep.

5 inches is the minimum but id wait until longer. Don't waste your money on a professional they do the same shitty job your mom would do. And if your hair is straight you might want to get a perm. and dont over use wax it looks so dirty. I had dreads for 3 year msg me if you got any questions.

here's mine when i was 16... they're kinda hard to see though but they were pretty legit. They are a bit ratty in this pic because they were in the earlier stages. I had to eventually chop them off for a job, plus they're a bitch to take care of. You gotta definitely be prepared to work with em A LOT if you want them to look good.  When you get started, I'd have someone with experience with dreadlocks or a salon that does dread perms do it for you. And definitely buy a kit from here... this is by far the best dread resource:

I was so close to doing it, i then corn rowed it, it turned to a fro, then i cut it shorter but it was still pretty long. Now i'm getting a buzz cut today.

I had dreads for a bit, and they definitely were a bitch to take care of, but as people said before, dreadheadhq.com is the best resource. A salon will cost you $400-500, so if you don't want to pay that much just have a friend or your mom do them. They probably are going to look bad at the start, but overtime they will lock up more and look better.

last week at the bar there was this really hot blonde chick with a nice dress/shoes/purse and everything. Then she turned around and we saw the dreads, pretty gross, such a waste. Instead of thinking "damn shes hot" I was thinking "Damn I bet her head smells terrible"

I dont think they look that bad on a dude unless they're really really big ones

use a bit of wax to start to hold them together but dont over do it. Once the knots are formed don't worry about wax.

but really don't do them unless ur hair is a little longer then past your ears, perferabbly shoulder lenght or you go through the troll stage,

when dreading ur hair it will shrink into dreads like 1-3 inches. if u use wax to to stick them thats fine the more you use wax it couold make your hair's roots die. make sure to buy dread soap because its natural and won';t kill off the oils you produce on your scalp to keep them mostiruized. go to dread sites i think i good one is like dreadhead.hp or something just look it up on google. if u want nice dreads buy a kit for it they run from 40-90$ depending on what your preference is. theres a lot to dreads for the first 3-6 months but then they are easy to take care of, make sure to get some girl friends that like to play with your hair and help roll it.
