Songs from iPod to computer

Does anyone know of a free and easy way to get the songs from an ipod to a Mac?

i did it awhile ago on a different computer when iPodRip was free i think.

i tried using the program Expod but it was kinda confusing and lost 150 of my songs

even if there isn't a free program, a cheap one?

you have to hack into your ipod/computer, by allowng hidden files to be shown. i had to do this a few times and it works great :)

open up terminal using the spotlight search

type in: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

hit enter

then type in: killall Finder

hit enter

you will see a bunch of folders with a number sequence click on each folder individually, your songs will be in each folder labeled with a four letter code (ie: GDAI) with no relation to the track title. Select all files in the folder and drag to itunes library, where most files will automatically recover their name and info. Some files do not convert and so you have to go through and rename them. Also, take your time doing this, wait for each folder to load completely, when you rush copying you will forget a folder and lose songs..I've done that a lot.

After you are done re-enter the same terminal code as above but change the TRUE to FALSE and your hidden files will disappear.

I don't think what Stilla said will work if you have an iPod Touch. I don't know maybe it will but I have it in my head that it won't. Disregard if you have any other type of iPod.

The touch and the iphone aren't like other iPod models in that they do not possess a "disk use" mode. This means that you can't access the flash memory and hard drive allowing you to pull music off the touch or iphone.

You don't need to download anything. All you need to do is make sure that in your file settings, it's set to "show hidden files." Then go into My Computer > Your iPod. There should be folders there with music in them -- though they'll have names like 4GG6 (numbers and letters) and stuff like that. Import the folders into iTunes and the album artwork and track names will magically appear.

i don't download from itunes, except from indie bands, i really don't know too many people who do download from it.

but anyways it is illegal because you can potentially share your library with a lot of people by using your ipod as a hard drive.

tuneranger   works for pc to mac  ipod to mac    and ipod to ipod  and ipod to pc   and i got it for i think 10 bucks and it does videos too.

Not illegal.  If you copy it to a friend's computer then its illegal.  And its even easier to do on a PC.

I think any open source software that can read HFS+ drives SHOULD be able to get onto a touch memory chip.  It has to be mounted somehow for iTunes to use it, i mean I've gotten onto the firmware partition of a Video that way (unreadable though).

Either that or jailbreak and SSH, or get a program.

^none of that may be helpful at all, I don't have a touch and haven't worked with them
