well in new york im pretty sure the punishment is that you get your license taken away for 60 days, but i could be wrong

in mass you get it taken away for 6 months

no in N.Y you can have 2 other people in your car if you get any infraction over 2 points (really anything) then say good by to it for 60 days Idk about Seattle it's differs from state to state.

they are changing it to one person, along with this no texting law (i work for the lobbiest who got it passed). its gonna suck

in california its a year suspension but no one ever gets caught unless your dumb about it

ive been pulled over in a car with a kid who had more kids in his car then he was allowed within 6 months of getting his license, and the cop didnt even notice or say anything, but that was in NH

i got caught with too many people in my car two summers ago. im in nj and all i got was a ticket and a fine. annoying though cause i had to drive two hours back down the shore to go to court for it

yea its a secondary in my state too. and im not gonna do anything stupid enough to get caught in the first place. not by a cop or my parents. im just trying to find out what has happened to other people.

here in washington, if you get caught once, I think you just get a warning. 2nd time, I think your license is suspended for 6 months. 3rd Time, your license gets revoked till you're 18,

I drove people up to the passes when I first got my license, and generally if you don't drive like a 16 year old fucktard (speeding, aggressive, dumbshit, etc etc) on a weekend in Washington up to say stevens or snoqualmie or something, you'll be fine. But cops seem to have a 6th sense for law breakin youth, but it is secondary, so just drive like a upstanding citizen and all will be well.

as long is the cop is not a complete dick they will most likely let u off with a warning do to the fact that the laws are so strict i got pulled over doing 20 over the speed limit when i first got my license do to the fact that the cop felt bad cause if i wrote me a ticket that i would have lost my license till i was 18 and i was only 16 at the time.

God montana rules are bomb, no restrictions at all for new drivers and you could get your license at 15.

yea ive got a friend whos getting his liscence at 15 in montana, and then moving back here and being able to drive around here like a year before any of me or my friends.

It is a secondary offense, so you can't be pulled over specifically because you have more than three passengers under the age of 21 (after the initial six months) or because you have non-family members in the car without a parent/guardian 21 years or over (during the initial six months).

According to the Washington State IDL Law RCW 46.20.075,

(1) An intermediate license authorizes the holder to drive a motor vehicle under the conditions specified in this section. An applicant for an intermediate license must be at least sixteen years of age and:

(a) Have possessed a valid instruction permit for a period of not less than six months;

(b) Have passed a driver licensing examination administered by the department;

(c) Have passed a course of driver's education in accordance with the standards established in RCW 46.20.100;

(d) Present certification by his or her parent, guardian, or employer to the department stating (i) that the applicant has had at least fifty hours of driving experience, ten of which were at night, during which the driver was supervised by a person at least twenty-one years of age who has had a valid driver's license for at least three years, and (ii) that the applicant has not been issued a notice of traffic infraction or cited for a traffic violation that is pending at the time of the application for the intermediate license;

(e) Not have been convicted of or found to have committed a traffic violation within the last six months before the application for the intermediate license; and

(f) Not have been adjudicated for an offense involving the use of alcohol or drugs during the period the applicant held an instruction permit.

(2) For the first six months after the issuance of an intermediate license or until the holder reaches eighteen years of age, whichever occurs first, the holder of the license may not operate a motor vehicle that is carrying any passengers under the age of twenty who are not members of the holder's immediate family as defined in RCW 42.17.020. For the remaining period of the intermediate license, the holder may not operate a motor vehicle that is carrying more than three passengers who are under the age of twenty who are not members of the holder's immediate family.

(3) The holder of an intermediate license may not operate a motor vehicle between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. except when the holder is accompanied by a parent, guardian, or a licensed driver who is at least twenty-five years of age.

(4) It is a traffic infraction for the holder of an intermediate license to operate a motor vehicle in violation of the restrictions imposed under this section.

(5) Enforcement of this section by law enforcement officers may be accomplished only as a secondary action when a driver of a motor vehicle has been detained for a suspected violation of this title or an equivalent local ordinance or some other offense.

(6) An intermediate licensee may drive at any hour without restrictions on the number of passengers in the vehicle if necessary for agricultural purposes.

(7) An intermediate licensee may drive at any hour without restrictions on the number of passengers in the vehicle if, for the twelve-month period following the issuance of the intermediate license, he or she:

(a) Has not been involved in an automobile accident; and

(b) Has not been convicted or found to have committed a traffic offense described in chapter 46.61 RCW or violated restrictions placed on an intermediate licensee under this section.

If you are pulled over for a moving violation (i.e. speeding), and you have unauthorized passengers in the car with you, you will be cited for both the moving violation and the secondary offense (the unauthorized passengers). However, it is always the officer's discretion whether or not to write you up for the secondary offense.

And as skier_boy26 said, your first moving violation, you get a letter from the DOL giving you a warning. The second moving violation, you get a letter from the DOL revoking your license for six months. Your third, your license is revoked until you turn 18.

I vehemently hate the IDL law and the restrictions it puts on teen drivers. But statistics are statistics, and if it save lives and prevents accidents (two years after it was put into effect, teen drivers saw 60% fewer accidents), I can't argue. It works. Luckily my home resort is in Idaho -- though I live in WA.

in maine, you just get another 6 months added on before you can drive with other people in your car besides family memebers. i would think its along those lines out where you are

my friend got pulled over at the top of the pass for having a taillight out and going through a stop sign and he didn't have his six months me and another kid were in the car with him. the officer ended up letting him off with a warning though. we then looked up the rule and the first time  you get pulled over with kids in the car they mail you a warning

to add to that be sure to always call him sir and show him that you are scared shitless and they will let you off.

No one pays attention to that I would put seven people in my Camry for ski hill to McD's trips but I think I'm done with that now that seatbelt is a primary offense in MN.
