Why isn't ford selling this is america?

The Ford Focus RS is probably the best ford i"ve ever seen and yet ford in america is not selling it. It out preforms the mazda 3 speed which is one of the best selling cars in canada (not sure about the US). I just cant understand why they would shoot themselves in the foot and keep quality vehicles from us while there in such tough times. Focus RS belowClick for larger image

The Focus SVT wasnt a huge hit, why would they bring this in? Many americans still like their SUVs and full sized sedans.

I think this could be a response to all of the imports that outpreform ford in almost everyway. I dont think that ford should flood the lots with them I would just like to see them starting to introduce some newer higher preformance cars other than the mustang.

the only prob is that it sells for like 30k in europe and i don't think they can get that for a focus. but it is pretty badass and fast.

If anyone's interested, this topic is ALL over car forums as well.

A lot of the problem is that the perceived N. American market isn't big enough to justify them bringing it over. It'll most likely have a pricepoint of around 45k....which in many people's minds is far too much to spend on a ford focus (obviously not speaking on the parts of ANY enthusiasts).
Hopefully with enough public input, ford will realize that there is a (though small) market for this kind of car in our market. A limited # release (a la VW R32) would be nice!

This is the case with many cars in Europe.  They have a way bigger selection of engines and options  and just more cars that are nicer than the ones available here.  There's also a way bigger following of diesel overseas(Not sure if it's actually more than 50% of car owners there)  They have 1.2 litre diesel engines which will get 80 MPG! 80!  But those cars won't come here until gas gets to like $4/litre.

i've been saying this since the previous like, 3 versions of the RS ago...

Its totally stupid to not sell it here, when you have so much market that would be interested, including myself - though i'm now pretty loyal to subaru.

just look at the sales of the STI and the Evo here in america... i know at least here in california, they are all over the place. They get decent mileage, they are fast, they are safe, they are super cool looking, and they can fit 4 people and all of their stuff. thats like the quintuple crown of awesomeness right there.

besides... even if it doesnt sell like crazy, it will bolster the sales of your other CARS. it will show that ford has a heritage besides that of gas guzzling trucks and SUV's.

Subaru and Mitsubishi have been marketing their rally prowace over the more recent years, and using it to market their car lineups (even though Mitsubishi hasnt won anything since tommi makkinen in the late 1990's, and Subaru hasnt won anything since Richard Burns' and Petter Solberg's championships in 2001 and 2003) and this has obviously bolstered the sales of their cars.

Meanwhile Ford has slacked off TERRIBLY in that department (even though they've been highly competetive, and actually won the constructors championship a few times - beating the Subys, and Mitsubishis, and even Sebastian Loeb's Citroen team...) and have relied on this bullshit that they can just sell giant oversized trucks and SUV's and crap.


To be honest, i actually think Ford makes good cars... (GM, on the other hand really needs to step it up - and here I'm more of a chevy guy saying that), the Fusion and the Focus are definitely well built, and easily rival their japanese counterparts in reliability and mileage.



I think a great step in the right direction for Ford would for sure be to release, at least a few of these for sale in north america. It wouldnt even take that much to do - you're already making the fawkin thing!

well to be fair the ford f150 is like the best truck on the road. i mean full size nice truck 21 mpg. thats almost as good as a normal sized sedan. thats one hell of a truck.

because if you did a little research you would find that many of fords motors are actually created over in Britan as apposed to the US.. which in order to ship the parts here assemble the car and sell it would make it to expensive to be realistic for a US customer... if we were able to re vamp the ford plants here so that they can produce engines that arent 4.0 + liters getting 12-18 mpg then these cars could be produced here.....Ford also produces a 60 mpg deisel mid size sedan that is in europe but not the us for the same reason as posted above....

the american market is not suitable for the products which thrived previously from a demand artificially inflated by an outpouring of cash from the banks. it appeared on the books that the homeloans were doing well, until it crashed. two things happened - the basic bluecollar jobs here were lost due to the inflated dollar (higher costs) and risk-bearing institutions were supporting the books with massive capital spent solely to purchase, sell, the repurchase (flip) the homeloans. such a balance was incredibly hard to maintain. eventually our inability to cater to the people who dont see institutionalized welfare as a way of income led us to here, and the great motto, stay in school

Off topic, but this whole "making cars more gas efficient" thing is fucking retarded. I am in the market for a new car.

My current cars, Alero with 3.4L V6 getting something like 180hp or whatever in a lighter body. My Impala with a 3.8L V6 getting something like 220hp with some mods. My impala gets shit mileage because of modifications, but the Alero for instance is plenty fast and ballsy. It gets like 28 or 29mpg on the highway.

I'm looking left and right for vehicles that can carry 4 people if need by like the Alero, and be sporty. It just doesn't happen?

I consider good mpg around 25/30......

Subarus are like 20/25 it seems.

It's just a war of performance vs. practicality for a daily driver....

This is exactly what i was thinking, except i suck at posting pics lol. Everyones shitting on this car, but sucking subaru's dick in like 30 other threads. And I hope everyone who sees the pic of the ford is smart enough to know it doesnt only come in green, just like the sti doesnt only come in grey.

i get 25 in my 2.5l forrester that is a manual. if i had a legacy or an impreza with a 2.5 and a manual i'm pretty sure i could get like 27-28 easy. i'n my old legacy i had a 2.2 and i got 30 all the time.

To the thread creator, Ford trucks are the best thing Ford has ever made.  Not there cars.  (well except for the Mustang and the GT500, they do make a few older good cars, im saying currently.)

Yeah, but its still being outsold by the Toyota Tundra (which to be fair is basically like an american car, seeing as many of them are made in Kentucky anyway.. even if the profits do go back to japan) which gets around the same gas mileage...

Not to mention, Toyota trucks are built so intellegently, and robust, its like Toyota planned to build tanks, and out came a pickup truck on accident...

Not saying Fords arent "built ford tough"... just saying, i've never seen a ford go through what Top Gear did to an 80's toyota truck, and survive what it experienced...

They sell it in France as well as Germany. They drive on the right hand side in most of those places as well.

besides... converting the steering column from one side of the other in this car would be no problem, because the engine is a Volvo engine, and the engine bay is setup just like the Volvo C30 T5 - which is already sold all over Europe and N.A., and probably a bunch of other places.

Therefore. I just killed your point haha.
