im looking at getting some pistols at the end of the year, or as soon as i get the money. i'm 5'10 and weigh about 155ish. i was thinking about getting the 189s but im not sure if they will be way way too big for me. i'm a fairley aggressive skier, and right now i'm on 183 kreitlers. i've skied the 185 b3 bandits and they werent too long at all. any input would be great. thanks.

oh yeah, i dont want to go as short as the 179 because i do way more backcountry skiing than park skiing and like longer skis.
i suppose if the 189s were a bit too long i could mount the binding more forward. how much difference would that make?

I say if you don't mind a little extra length you will find 189cm to be fine. I'm going to be faced with the same question before next season probably (pistols). I weigh the same as you, (a little bit taller, which doesn't really matter) and I can tell you it will be an easy choice for me. (especially considering I'll have a pair of park skis.. don't know if you will?)
189cm is my reccomendation if:
-don't mind a longer ski
-have a pair for park and pipe
I think you've already made up your mind in saying you've skied 'long' skis before and haven't had any problems!

'destroy' i was in the same situation as you, I weigh less than you but I went with the 189cm pistols. I dont do park so I dont need a short ski. I ski big mountain backcountry, they are a bit of work to control in the tight trees and bushes so I stay away from that sh*t. I am glad I got the 189, with a shorter ski you can progress as far as with a longer ski. Go 189 if you dont do park but like big turns in the pow, you'll be glad you did.

by the way the 189 pistols are actually 197cm, tip to tail. something to consider if you like turning in tight situations.

yooo logan, my buddy who is quite a bit heavier than you (~210) and he has the 179s. like the guy above said, the 189s are much longer, and the 179s follow that same trend. my buddy mounted them about 3cm forward and they still are great for deep stuff. we had about 2.5 feel two weekends ago and he was barely sinking 6 inches. wasnt even bouncing up and down, just skiing normal. i say that if you get the 179s and mount them at the reccomended spot, you will find them plenty long enough... specially since the new ones are stiffer than last years.

I'm 5'11, 155 and ski on 189 pistol's. If you are going to be using the skis for big mtn/powder skis, then go with the 189's. They are a little big in tight trees, but besides that the skis rip. I never really ski them in the park (I've got a pair of PE's for that) but the 189's could be a little to big in the park...but it sounds like that isn't a concern of yours. Hope that helps.

cool, good advice guys. i want to get the PE's for park stuff, but ill have to wait because thats a lot of money to spend all at once.
you guys who said you are about the same size as me, do you have your bindings mounted up at all?

Im 165-170 and on the 179 and they rip in the tight vermont woods that I ski most of the time, but if I were out west, 189 no question. It is nice to have a slightly shorter ski for park, but I still may switch for 189's next season. Right now i have the 05 pistol, which is slightly stiffer, mounted up with some Fretchi Freerides, which i think has to be the best setup ever. I was a little hesitant at first, but the binding is holding up the the east coast bashing that i put to it.
Ohh, and when you mount them, go plus 3 or plus 4, that way you get a decent sized tail. I mounted mine plus 2 and they ride nice, but I still would like a longer tail.

179's for sure. Dont even consider the 189's!!! way to bigg. Im your same size and I ski the 69's and love them, but could handle the 79's for sure.
