Cut the bullshit

I am personally fed up reading posts in the forums commenting on how some kid is rich or completely spoiled because they are going to an on snow summer camp. i for one am working my ass off to get enough money to head to oregon or whistler in the next couple years, as i am sure many people are. Come on guys this type of comment is not at all necesary

wait, your rich parents sent you to camp and you got something awesome, and now you want to sell it? whats the problem your trust fund doesnt kick in for another couple months?

This is only one of the numerous comments alike i have seen. They are not necesary, just because someone would rather spend their entire summer/yearly earnings on a week of skiing then on sometihng else like new ski gear, a car,etc.. does not leave grounds for what are meant to be degrading comments about a familys financial cituation. And yes, some kids are fortunate enough to have parents willing to pay for a week of summer skiing for them, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just stop it, they arent necesary and no one likes to see them.

Most of the kids on here, but nature of the sport, are privileged and are in families that earn high above the average income each year. So are most people on your hill. If you have to work to ski, take heart, you have more passion and love for this sport than most of these kids will ever learn.

yea, unfortunately most people on here are like that just because skiing is expensive, and not easily accessible to the masses unless they can afford it. Its a luxury basically.

I grew up kind of like that (parents paid for lift tickets etc when i was little, like everyone elses did i would assume.) but i never owned my own skis until i was 14 i think, and never had the nicest equipment, and certainly didn't get new stuff every year.

Then finally when you get dumped on your ass and realize how damn expensive skiing is, you really get to appreciate it that much more.

I think most of it revolves around jealousy. Kids who are working all of their ski-less summer to afford their next season tend to get pissed when they have to read all these threads from younger kids who had an amazing time at camp, and got tons of cool gear from pros but then they try to turn around and sell it for a profit. Most people just assume that its 12 year olds whose parents paid for the camp because for the most part it is. However, how can expect a 12 year old to pay for camp? Like Rowen said the person who earns their own money will enjoy the camp more, and get more out of it. It's just a part of life. You will always hear people bringing down others with more money.

Hell, even if i did have the 2000+ to go to summer camp, I'd rather just stay home, shred the summer setup, and spend the money on ski shit than go to a summer camp and ski shitty snow for a week. I'm sure it'd be sick though.

The funniest part about this continuing cycle of comments to me, is that skiing is one of the most rich, affluent sports on the planet. I've read stats that put skiers higher than the people in yachting and golf.

I mean no matter how much of a broke bum you are, generally skiing costs a shitload. Sure you can cut this down with ski town jobs or employment in the industry, but in general most skiers grew up in at least a middle-class home.

Its not like skateboarding where you could acutally have a broke family, broke existance with no car and no job... but you have a skate deck and the city.

I mean face it, just to walk out into the winter you need several hundred dollars worth of outerwear, even if used. Add to that skis, boots, bindings you're already at a grand or two. Thats pretending you've got no hat, no poles, no goggles, no Tall T, and no car up to the mountain.

Add the car, hotel/ski chalet and a couple of lift tickets, and mathematics just isn't on the side of being broke anymore.

Its silly to think that kids under 15 en masse will be supporting themselves, so of course your parents buy you some shit. Some people work jobs to get to camp (which I did for 3 years and it was worth every dime) which is cool... but some parents send their kids, which is fine too. No need to bicker about being spoiled.

Hell without the rich parents that 90% of skiers have, there would be no sport of skiing. So every time someone bitches about another's parent sending them to camp, remember that this is giving most of the pro skiers you know and love summer employment. Its bringing dollars into the industry where they could be spent on a new SUV or leather seats in the porche.

Hell look at the demographics of ski magazine - http://www.bonniermountaingroup.com/ski_demo.html - aint fucking poor let me tell you.

So don't worry about hating on people who have rich parents...

Yes well south america is great too, if you're looking for the more winter-style big mountain experience. And if thats what you're into, then by all means go there. There's plenty of camps to do, and you can just rip down on your own.

But at the time, I wanted to go to a park camp where I could learn to jump on well manicured features with slushy landings. I wanted to hang out in the scene, and experience the legendary whistler nightlife.

You might not like Whistler, but there's plenty of poeple out there that love it. Its all about personal preference, and figuring out what your own goals are.

At the time, I wanted to be a professional skier, make contacts in the industry and get a job at High North. Being a camper at High north helped me accomplish the second two... hah could have accomplished the first if I was better.

In my three years of camping at High North I met guys like Peter/Michael Olenick, Colby West, Jon McMurray, and a slew of others that went on in their carrers.

I also remember as a digger seeing a super young kid come through and slay the rails... Tom Wallnuts or something like that.

im trying to save up some money to go to camp again next year. it was one of the funnest expiriences ever even if its expensive

hate on rich people is stupid, its jelousy. Kids that get to go to windells, coc, ect., and get new gear all the time doesnt mean they're rich, it means they are spoiled. Im in an uppermiddle class family and if my parents wanted to spoil me they could, but they dont. They help me pay for stuff but i have to work for it too and pay for parts of things.

I can't really hate on rich people for multiple reasons:
1- There are kids i know that can't even afford to ski or for basic necessities for school
2- My parents funded every aspect of skiing for me until i was about 12 (and that was because besides our home life it was the entire focus of our winter)
3- If my parents blew money out there ass i wouldn't be complaining and if yours did the same neither would you!
4- I work for all the cool shit i buy, so people hate and call my parents rich an shit for stuff they never even considered paying for just makes me be like . . . . . ."No, i work my ass off so you can call ME rich. Cause i worked for it"
