There's already been a thread on this.
I think it was decided that it would mean drawing a line between pro/am videos, and who can dictate that? It's us, as NSers, who rate the videos to show how good they are, not mods who decide on the quality of the video.
Besides, how would you do that? You could have a video with pros and shitty filming and skiing, or you could have a wonderful video of some local crew with amazing filming and skiing. Who decides which go where? Why not let them stay together and let NS decide? Isn't that the point of top rated?
Well that's silly too, because what about the filmmakers who don't have orange names but film with the pros and feature pros in their edits?
I feel like this whole thing is an attempt to split the two sects...but I don't see why? If this is to make it easier for us normal people to get top rated videos, there will always be normal people who are better and will take the top rated spot, regardless of whether the orange names are included or not.
And besides, why take away the satisfaction that a normal NSer feels when his video, the one he worked so hard on and put so much effort into, takes the top spot, or makes it onto the list above a top pro's video. That's a great feeling, one of accomplishment.
To split the video section (in my eyes) is only an attempt to equalize a playing field so that others don't have to work harder to achieve more.
Leave them together and just let NS decide which the best ones are. If you want your video to be on top rated, put effort into it and make it good - I've noticed that the problem is not so much the ratings they get as the AMOUNT of ratings they get. If you can make your video interesting enough that people watch it and like it and rate it, then you will be top rated.
