honestly it seems that somone thought they heard god telling them to write these scriptures, like the whole moses comming down the mtn w/ the 10 comandments thing. only he could hear the voice of god (lol) so it was up to him to engrave the tablets, but no one else could hear him so they had to just trust what he was sayin was true. all this comming from people who belived in monsters and heliocentisim( universe revolving around earth) and an entire religon was born
sounds like a case of sciztsofrenia to me, but what do i know i dont talk to god.
Most of the Abrahamic religions evolved from earlier Mesopotamian and Egyptian religions, and sometimes not even religious, texts and historical documents. The notion of magic and mystery stems from the dawn of human history to the present, as a way of explaining that which is unexplainable. For example, the Great Flood - you may know this in the Old Testament as the story of Noah's Ark - in actuality was both an historical event and featured in both Mesopotamian history and the Epic of Gilgamesh (which also features the earliest known concept of interpersonal relations between gods and humans as well as a view into Mesopotamian culture). The Bible and the Old Testaments and Gospels, as well as the Qu'ran and the Popol Vuh are all unique explanations for the Origin of Things. Every culture has them or has had them at some point to explain mysteries and set moral standards for the time and originate from man's inability to explain phenomena.
Hence, invisible man in the sky.
I'd like to refer you to a place called Logic and Statistics. And also the Searchbar. Look up the last thread on evolution. Maybe bring it up, read it, do whatever. Just don't start another evolution thread. For the love of God even.
There are aspects of Judaism, Buddhism, Daoism, Islam, Jainism, and Christianity that appeal to everyone, it's just a matter of faith and personal choice.
Jesus of Nazareth and Christianty were born in the Roman Empire. Jesus's parents were citzens of Judea which was a province of the Levant. The orgins of Biblical scripture come from Judea in the Roman Empire.
