As many of you know, I recently got a new dog. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier and is very closely related to an American Pit Bull Terrier. My neighbor had the nerve to yell to me yesterday, "If I see your fucking dog near my house or near a child, I will kill it myself or see that it is put down." I literally wanted to shoot this man.

Here comes my rant:

I have grown up with dogs since I was born, pretty much every breed in the book. Now at 19, I rescue dogs and either find homes for them or take them in myself. I currently have a Black Lab, Yorkie-Poo, a Boxador (Lab-Boxer), a Doberman-Hound mix, and my AmStaff. They get along fine, love kids, and I have never had a problem with them and my horses. Why is it that America cannot accept them?

People have such a fear of Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers and other aggressive breeds. What they don't realize is that any dog can be aggressive, even a tiny poodle. My Yorkie-Poo could destroy someone and she is 5 pounds. A friend of mine had a beautiful Pit Bull puppy who was poisoned at 5 months because someone simply did not like the breed. What is this world coming to?!

Effing Michael Vick is going to be the spokesman for the National Humane Society...WTF! That man should be soaked in meat and placed into a room filled with the dogs he trained to kill. I would pay to see him destroyed. There are currently 200-300 Pit Bulls being rescued from the Atlanta area out of dog fighting kennels. No one wants to take them in because of the stigma they carry, when Pit Bulls can be the most gentle, loving dogs. But instead they are being euthanized before they even have a chance to be rehabbed.

okay i read the thread up till this point cuz its long and pointless. so for those of you who have read this far. Dogs you don't know are scary as fucking shit. dogs you know, like my dog and my friends dog i love them and comfortable around them. but have you ever been out on a run or something and been barked at or chased by someones dog, sooo fucking scary like you said even small dogs can fuck you up so even when an average dog gets pissed at you now it could end bad. and I understand you're a peta freak but c'mon animals are dangerous as brought up so many times already they're so unpredictable and territorial. if you're an outsider front on some dogs shit you better get out of there. except it or not your dog is dangerous, meant to be dangerous and while its not threat to you it is to others. get a grip on the world other than your one in your little mind and see how other people live.

This is why I'm a cat person. If a neighbor tries to fuck with your cat, he's dead in his sleep. He tries to kick the cat, and he gets his shit scratched in places he never knew the cat could reach. Dogs are big dumb sweethearts.

REALLY? no one will adopt pitbulls that were trained to tear each other into peices? noooo wayyyyy. I find that really hard to beileive.

dogs who are trained to fight are rehabbed and then put up for adoption. my friend has a few rescued pit bulls and they have never returned to an aggressive state.

Anyways...my parents are vets, and I've asked these questions before.  There is a reason these dogs are being euthanized, and yes, while I'm with you in that there is probably a better way, there are in fact problems with these animals. 

Pit bulls and other fighting dogs are not only brought up to be mean; they are bred to be mean.  Some of the meanness is an acquired trait which cannot be passed on, but dog fighters find the naturally mean ones and use those to breed.  The mean genes stay pure and the dogs stay mean.  So yes, most are born mean.

Some dogs are also more aggressive than most.  There's a reason the golden retriever or the black lab is considered the typical family dog whereas dobermans, rotweilers, german shepards, and pitbulls are considered mean and aggressive.  They do back up their reputation.

I too would pay to see Michael Vick soaked in meat and eaten alive.  That guy is a DOUCHEBAG.  Only the lowliest scum would enjoy taking part in stuff like that.  It's sick, it really is.

my aunt rescues animals also and she has both a greyhound and a doberman. the greyhound was from racing and her legs are permanently fucked. the doberman was from racing also but her tail was cut off. the doberman has to be the nicest dog I have ever met. she actually flinches if you go to pet her to quickly. its really sad to see these dogs and hear what they went through. its really great to see them have a nice home

Thank you!  I'll have you know I got an A in AP Bio last year, a 750 on the Bio SAT2, and a 5 on the AP exam.../claim.

^and yeah, you're right.  Wanna know what gets me?  Those fucking ASPCA commercials, with the sad music and the puppy eyes?  I have to change the channel or else I'll cry, no lie.  Having grown up around rescued animals (I have 2 dogs - one from a breeder, one rescued by my parents, and 2 formerly stray kittens) I can say that I love them very much. 

Hopefully I didn't sound like a douche above.  Obviously not all dogs of the type are mean, that would be stereotyping.  But I'm not saying all pitbulls are mean, I'm saying that, generally, fighting pitbulls are mean.

i agree, for the most part dogs reflect the temperment of their owner/how they were raised
if you treat a dog like shit, it'll treat people the same
