As many of you know, I recently got a new dog. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier and is very closely related to an American Pit Bull Terrier. My neighbor had the nerve to yell to me yesterday, "If I see your fucking dog near my house or near a child, I will kill it myself or see that it is put down." I literally wanted to shoot this man.

Here comes my rant:

I have grown up with dogs since I was born, pretty much every breed in the book. Now at 19, I rescue dogs and either find homes for them or take them in myself. I currently have a Black Lab, Yorkie-Poo, a Boxador (Lab-Boxer), a Doberman-Hound mix, and my AmStaff. They get along fine, love kids, and I have never had a problem with them and my horses. Why is it that America cannot accept them?

People have such a fear of Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers and other aggressive breeds. What they don't realize is that any dog can be aggressive, even a tiny poodle. My Yorkie-Poo could destroy someone and she is 5 pounds. A friend of mine had a beautiful Pit Bull puppy who was poisoned at 5 months because someone simply did not like the breed. What is this world coming to?!

Effing Michael Vick is going to be the spokesman for the National Humane Society...WTF! That man should be soaked in meat and placed into a room filled with the dogs he trained to kill. I would pay to see him destroyed. There are currently 200-300 Pit Bulls being rescued from the Atlanta area out of dog fighting kennels. No one wants to take them in because of the stigma they carry, when Pit Bulls can be the most gentle, loving dogs. But instead they are being euthanized before they even have a chance to be rehabbed.

dogs are just as they're treated, treat em bad, they act bad, treat em nice and they're your best friend, my granny who's 73y owns a doberman and its the sweetest animal i know!

your rant is appropriate, especially people without dogs don't understand these things....

i agree with some of your points, but pitbulls and other bulldogs are straight up retarded, possibly even worse than poodles. Why would you ever want a dog that has been bred so selectively for so long just to produce a really agressive dog with a really fucked up face?

Before I get slammed with the hate train, let me say that I've always owned mutts adopted from a shelter, despise pet stores and puppy mills, and would never have a dog that wasn't neutered or spayed, so I am in no way a dog hater, I just don't see any positives to pit bulls (or really most pure breeds.)

let me get this clear right away i love dogs have always loved dogs they are truely man's best friend.

with that said dogs are very unpredictable and especially if you have a breed of dog bred to fight and kill other dogs you will have some problems. now there are nice pit bulls family friend has a male and female couple and they are straight sick dogs. hilarious personalities and very nice socialable dogs.

 however how many maulings does it take for it to not be worth it? just a moral question you have to ask yourself.

well he is a shelter dog. he was living in the woods for 2 years tied to a tree at a puppy mill.

pits and bulldogs are not related.

just because you think you know a lot about dogs doesnt mean you know what your dog will do in every situation, if the dude doesnt want your dog on his property near his kids thats completely fine, its your responsibility to tie it up or some shit, he has every right to kill it if it comes on his property and fucks with his kids, im not saying it will but hes probably just giving you shit so you tie it up, which you should be doing anyways

I really like the fact that you are speaking out about pit bulls and how you feel about them and such but honestly.. nobody gives a fuck how nice YOUR pit bull is. You have to face the facts. Pit Bulls are more often to initiate agressive behavior.

-Pit Bulls ... possess the quality of gameness, which is not a totally clear concept, but which can be described as the propensity to catch and maul an attacked victim unrelentingly until death occurs, or as the continuing tenacity and tendency to attack repeatedly for the purpose of killing. It is clear that the unquantifiable, unpredictable aggressiveness and gameness of Pit Bulls make them uniquely dangerous.
-Pit Bulls have the following distinctive behavioral characteristics: a) grasping strength, b) climbing and hanging ability, c) weight pulling ability, d) a history of frenzy, which is the trait of unusual relentless ferocity or the extreme concentration on fighting and attacking, e) a history of catching, fighting, and killing instinct, f) the ability to be extremely destructive and aggressive, g) highly tolerant of pain, h) great biting strength, i) undying tenacity and courage and they are highly unpredictable.

You have a dog and you love him, get over it everybody loves their dog. I know this is a rant, but you sounded so ignorant and were blinded by what has happened concerning pit bulls. No matter how much of a dick your neighbor may be, you can't blame him for not wanting your dog anywhere near him, his family or even his property.

HE DOESN'T HAVE KIDS! this guy is a dick, i only have like 4 neighbors because i don't live close to anyone and he only hates on my dogs. i would never "tie my dog up" he's been tied to a tree for 2 years i think he's had enough and besides tying a dog up is cruel. i do know quite a bit about dogs and i know that some dogs can just snap but it's not fair to hate on certain breeds.


and yes my boxador is the coolest thing in the world.

same here once when i was little a dog that was up to my shoulders chased me, but stopped and i was really scared so the next time i went by i tried to cut thru a forest and got losed. i was like in gr.6 or 7

Good for you.  I love dogs too and unfortunatley lost mine recently.  They’re the best.  Respect.

Micheal Vick has paid his debt to society.  He is trying to do a good thing and repair his image and his life.  Can’t hate the guy, he could have just said fuck it all and gone and played football and been a dick about it, not owned up to his actions, and pretty much defer responsibility to the family and friends that screwed him over, freeloaded, and stabbed him in the back.  Let him do his thang.

Sometimes euthanizing the dogs is a better fate than the endless suffering they go through on their way to a painful, slow death.  If I could adopt ‘em all, I would.  Sucks.  That's the way of the world.

My family has a blue pit and he is pretty tight. Very smart dog, super calm and follows orders very well. However he is intimidating, he barks at anyone that walks in the house and is very protective.

And he is a beast he is all muscle. And sometimes he charges smaller dogs despite intensive training. Basically I don't really think (you might disagree) that it can be trained out of him. He is a good dog but you have to be careful with him. People hate him for no reason and people are douche bags but that's just what you have to put up with.

Your neighbor went over the top and was way out of line.

However, you do need to realize that pitbulls of all different breeds are extremely aggressive and will attack unprovoked and can do serious damage, so be aware of that constantly.

my cousins have 3 pitbulls and theyre the nicest dogs ive ever been around. the dogs smoke A LOT of weed though...

i know that pits are aggressive, they are bred to hunt and protect (not to kill). and i'm not just talking pits though, any dog can be labeled aggressive it's just the typical "junk yard dog" or "beware of dog" dogs are pits, dobes, and rotts.

i used to be terrified of pit bulls because of everything i had seen on tv until i started to work with them everyday. i have met dogs that look like they could rip my head off but the worst they would do is like me to death and the cute ones are usually the mean ones. people need to learn that a dog isnt born mean it's how it's raised.Click for larger image

this is capone. he is a pit mix and one of the nicest dogs on earth. no joke. i was taking a picture of him at work and he just happened to bark when i took it and this is how it turned out. dont judge pit bulls or any dogs that look like them from what you've seen on animal planet.

your neighbours actions shouldnt be tolerated. but pitbulls are indeed unpredictable. havent you heard all these news stories of like a two year old killed by one of them. they get along fine for like a year and bam one day the dog just mauls the child. 

im getting a little tired of the people who own pitbulls or hell even crossed with a pitbull that says "oh my pitbull isnt like the other pitbulls hes a nice one"  its what my neighbour said to me. (he had a pitbull crossed with an english bulldog) then on any ordinary day. it escapes. it ended up killing two cats and injuring another dog. you can have the chillest fucking pitbull in the world but you should be prepared for them to snap.

see it's crazy. i was attacked by a dog pretty badly when i was younger...it was an cute fluffy little american eskimo. but never once did i blame the dog and start hating dogs. idk maybe it's just me but i will defend a dog no matter what. i know animals can turn, any breed of any animal can turn.

any dog can be unpredictable. i've been fortunate enough to have wonderful dogs and have changed my families opinions on aggressive breeds. it depends on the socialization of the dog, any trainer will tell you that.

I had a amstaff also. I rescued it from a shelter. I had it a few weeks and he would always try to run off. He got out one day and attacked a nother dog. So yea, screw those dogs, there the devil. YOu should not be allowed to have those dong in America. Everyone says there not bad. Yes they are, they are bad dogs.

yeah, i was attacked by a poodle when i was 7. i had to get stitches in my hand because of it.
i still love dogs though. i have had at least two at every point in my life.

Yes, any dog can turn, but make no mistake, some breeds will instinctively turn much more likely than others, and that therein lies the problem with some of the dogs bred for fighting back in the day.

It's the same with humans and genetically predisposed diseases. Just because someones relatives had high instances of cancer doesn't mean that the person will have cancer, but they do need to be aware and monitor things much more closely.

people are too dumb to realize half the time that they have to be the leader of the pack when they adopt dogs, and then there are the select few too dumb to pick up a book about the breed theyre adopting.
but i think the underlining point was layed out. you said it yourself these are aggressive dogs. they also need the most discipline and work and love. the thing with pittbull breeds is that they are prone to snapping for 'no given reason.'
on the other hand, my bf's cousin has a pittbull and a rottweiler and they're the biggest babies on the planet. and they listen to their mama. see:

Well, as we all know, hyper-aggression is a trait that is, at least partially, genetic; dog fighters breed their dogs for this trait and pitbulls are typically used for fighting.  HOWEVER, acknowledging this, I totally agree that your neighbor overreacted.  The thing that most people don't recognize is that most of the aggression that fighting pitbulls exhibit stems from lifetime conditioning, which doesn't affect heredity at all.  So yeah, your neighbor needs to do his fucking homework before making threats like that.

I have never personally owned a dog but have lived with several and I feel it doesn't have so much to do with the breed as the individual dog. I have had a 140lb rotty who was the worlds biggest mommas boy lap dog, a friends pit and boxer are 2 of the funniest happiest dogs ever, yet my parents LaShit (lazoapso-shitzu sp) had to be put down because he had a hair trigger and attacked a few people.

i love my pits, and since so many new people are in and out of my house every day, they grew up from pups as being the most chill dogs. somehow they do know wen someone isn't supposed to be there though. last year a homeless person wandered into my house and up to the second floor.  i was just asking what the fuck he was doing in here when both pits ( on the third floor ) started barking like crazy and charging down the stairs.  i've never seen a person jump an entire flight of stairs before, it was nuts.

Every single dog or animal owner says the same fucking shit" ohhhh hes soooo nice he'd never hurt anyone" Bullshit I wonder how many times people have said that and then dogs gone and bitten someone. Of course the dog gets along fine with its owner most of the time but a stranger isn't the same and when it coems down to it they are still just wild animals. North america has this big fucking hard on for pets. Don't get  me wrong I don't mind them or anything but sometimes it seems that pets are more important than actual humans. If aliens observed us and saw us picking up after our dogs they would think that dogs are our  "leaders" lmao
