WTF......




It's like feminism never happened....



Ever...



The fact that they're even called "Women's Specific" skis is embarrassing.


I don't know about you, but the best women skiers I know, DON'T ride women's skis.

And they all ride skis that are longer than 175.



SO HELLO!!! to this terrible world we call the ski industry and open your eyes and realize maybe, JUST MAYBE, women can shred and we deserve a ski capable of handling our abilities.


But like most of the worlds mentality, women should be seen not heard (i.e. Roxy) and the world will go on...

^has a point. Womens specific skis exist because some women (not pros but the average skier chick) get overpowered by mens skis. If women want equal rights, they can catch one in the jaw too...

So.... my girlfriend who is 5'0" and loves rippin' around the slopes should ride a beefy ass 175cm+ ski? Not every chick is a behemoth.

Plus there are women that push women's specific ski's like crazy. Jeanie Thoren gives clinics at ski shops all around the US and from what I've heard, and on theskidiva.com, she seems to be doing a pretty good job and women skiers really appreciate the advice that she has to offer.

It would just be nice if SOMEONE would acknowledge women's skis SOMEWHAT....

There's a gazillion men's skis out there...

And jeannie thoren is a badass for sure. But she's selling recreational groomer skis...ummm cool? yay groomers...her concepts are amazing...they just need to be applied to say a XXL, not an all mountain carver...

I'm all for women's rights and women seizing the day and all that good wholesome stuff. But realistically, the market is not that huge for sick female skiers such as yourself, the market is oriented towards your average female skier who is most likely not as experienced as yourself and muscle around a larger men's ski. And to the female skiers, if you can handle men's skis and it does what you want it to do in the park/mountains/ on groomers, by all means go for it.

Taking a page from MLA Doug Elniski, "men are attracted to smiles, so smile and don't give me that 'treated equal' stuff, if you want equal, it comes in little packages at Starbucks." We do have physiological differences that allow a women's specific ski to be better adapted to the large majority of women skiers.

wow, i can't believe you just quoted that...Are you kidding me? Do you not care about who you are as a person? Do you want to be treated like a piece of meat? If your going to try and go against hundreds of years of feminism by using that quote as your argument...then i'm closing my eyes, taking a huge breath, and shedding a tear for the utter and complete downfall of the women of the future....That was ridiculous girl....And I'm not claiming to be a rad skier..I'm not....There are so many chicks out there who rip WAY better than me....but if the industry isn't going to acknowledge that women have a place in the skiing world, why do they waste their time making it appear as if they care?

ok let's be honest now girls don't "ripe" it they can't I guess, the pros are about as good as like a good 12 year old kid and roxys and all those skis are designed for the chicks who want to claim they freeski but in fact they can't hit anything or almost so stop bitching and if you really wanna ski just get some men's skis

No I'm not kidding you, and you're taking this completely the wrong way. I care about who I am as a person. No lie, I care deeply about women's rights and interests. I'm not going against hundreds of years of feminism, I'm merely acknowledging the fact that females are biologically and physiologically different than males. You're perception of feminism is quite skewed.

And by the way, you should be fighting for our sisters around the world who are forced into premature marriage, prostitution, forced labour, have children that they don't want or they can't feed and have no education or freedom, not against me. We're privileged.

The ski industry is acknowledging women in the skiing world, just not in the way that you want them to. And if you don't feel that their effort is genuine or worthwhile, I urge you to go out there and make a difference.

my gf not the most talented skier in the wold rocks a "woman's ski"  from line  and she loves them. mens skis aren;' for every girl that's why they have designed certain skis for a girls wieght and personal taste. its not that people think any less of girls like that can't handle a mens ski

you're seriously taking the whole feminism fight for equal rights to this... really? the womens ski industry not adapting to the more badass chick skiers isnt going to cause the downfall of society..

theres so many better arenas for your passion girl... use it wisely.

Besides... with the ratio of girls-guys entering college right now, as well as the ratio of high school dropouts... i'm a little more worried for the future of the dudes these days... at least in this country... (obviously not in places such as interior africa, or southeast asia.. dont get me wrong there..)

It's all about marketing. 

The women on this site and the girlfriends of the guys are an inconsequential percentage of women skiers.  Most are, at best, advanced/intermediates who love groomers and want to occasionally take it off-piste.  ski companies are aware of this, and thus market to it.  Women are huge shoppers and will shop to something catered to them.

Think about it... to the extreme end of things, all of us women could always wear mens clothes.  Sure they don't "fit" perfect, but we can and I know I often steal my boyfriends hoodies and such.  It's marketing to our inner shopping egos.

Ski companies are not meaning anything sexist about it.  It's just all about money.

Besides, it's not like we are forced to buy women specific skis.  We are free to ski whichever ski we want.  And yes, I do ride 175cm Armada JJs and I"m 5'2"

truth. they make more money off girls who wanna ride twins but dunno what to do with legit ones.  the womens ski industry somehow makes money on putting lower quality stuff out there that just happens to look girly.  i wear all mens stuff except my boots and theyre the only thing i have issues with...go figure

A few people up there said the right thing.  And with the whole feminism issue is the ski industry trying to do the right thing for woman. But ski industries are an in industrie and have to support themselves so they market to the greater market which is the softer, lighter less intense ski to the mens.  What the majority of girls need is the softer ski, so that is what is provided.  Why would woman need their own ski if they are just going to get a ski the same as the mens with different graffix? If you want a stiffer ski, then use a mens one.  Simple as that there is no market for a harder mens ski, only a small percentage, me included uses a mens ski and that's fine. It's not feminism, it would be feminism if they made no womans skis or all the skis were like mens. But no they market to the majority of people, the girls looking for a pretty soft ski.

Dude girls are general less agressive and generally not as strong, also there generally there not as tall. So naturally there going to have softer and shorter skis made specific for them.

womens skis are NECESSARY its not like you get on to buy mens skis and its like nope you have ovarys these skis arent for you. no your allowed to ride whatever the fuck you want to get of you female rights high horse and ski on whatever the fuck you want to.

It's a fact that women and men have different body types, with a different weight distribution, different height to weight ratio and muscle structure which in turn means that they will in most cases have different skiing styles which results in different skis made for women,  It's not that women CANT ski mens skis, ski manufactures just produce skis that would appeal to many women skiers, that have pretty pink top sheets, and perform a little better for their weight and height.  Not to mention a lot of skis aren't offered in size smaller than 170cm, and for a girl who is 5'3" that one hell of a ski...

its all preference. all my skis are women specific and i wouldnt have it any other way. im very small and dont weigh much so having less weight than a mens version is awesome.

dotn be so quick to diss. there is a reason for womens specific skis and i dont think its anti feminist at all, i thinks its pro feminism because they acknowledge we are different from men.

"Women's" skis are classified as such because they cater to the undeniable physiological differences that exist between the sexes. If you are somehow interpreting the manufacturing of skis specifically intended to benefit women as "sexist" you're waaaay too sensitive and are on the lookout for reasons to be offended.

For example, a lot of skis designed for women feature a different sidecut, and a different mounting point, the idea being that the design will prevent skiing from the backseat, which can be a problem for some women as women are naturally bigger in the "backseat".

Obviously an expert woman skier isn't going to have an issue maintaining forward pressure in her boots, and thus an aggressive balanced stance, but the vast majority of women (and men for that matter) are beginners who need every bit of help they can get.

Another distinction between men and women's skis would be in terms of the stiffness of flex. If your average guy is 5'10" 170, and your average gal is 5'4" 130, obviously it makes sense to choose a ski that provides the appropriate level of rigidity, while not being so stiff as to prevent natural flexing when entering and exiting turns.

Honestly, I have no clue where your outrage comes from...if you find that you prefer to use "men's" skis, that's fine....but, it doesn't mean that the very idea of "women's" skis is sexist.

nothing personal agianst women but the reason there are womens skis is because people buy them probablybecause they fit thier skiing style and preferences better than a mens ski. sure tons of girls ski on mens skis and theres nothing wrong with that but if you want to be completely equal and dont want there to be womens skis why dont women compete with men in competitions. A comp or just category for women in a comp is just as sexist as there being womens skis.

PS - If you want girls stuff to look like dudes stuff, just wear the dudes stuff and call it a day.  That or start trying to grow a dick.

hahahahaha- you're focusing your feminism towards the ski industry?? there's an obvious reason that the women's ski market isn't like the men's ski market. it's simple- there aren't as many of us out there. so why are they going to strive to make the women's ski market the same as men's? it doesn't make sense. and there are women's specific skis for physical differences- they're not trying to mock us and label us as 'pieces of meat'. thats absurd.
and if you want a big beefy ski that isn't pretty in pink, then ski a men's ski. whats the big deal. we're all to shred, so why should it matter if you're on skis specific to your gender

On a more serious note, I personally think it is an excellent idea to make girls skis. Then maybe the auto industry can take a hint and start making womens cars that drive themselves. Think of how many lives would be saved.

given my quiver, i'm clearly not a fan of women's skis... however, when i got to test next years Vokl Kiku or K2 Misbehaved, i thought these were the best women's ski ever yet made.  They're a fat, reletively stiff (more so for the Volkl), and slightly rockered ski that is quite awesome.  I usually rate women's skis (on a scale of 1-10) around 3-6, but I gave both of these skis 10s (okay, i gave the kikus 11).  The Volkl was a shorter, slightly lighter, but still stiff (for women) that charged through everything and still floated too.  The K2 was fun, light, and WAY poppy.  You could olly so big without even trying.

I think ski companies are starting to figure out that not all women's skis need to be soft, short, flimsy, flower decaled pieces of crap.  Granted, MANY average, middle age women will LOVE those aformentioned skis.  But, it's great to see companies diversifing their selection for women, just as they did years ago for men.

ya seriously ski junkie shut up. you should be glad that they even consider making a womens specific ski. usually womens specific skis are lighter cause usually men are stronger than little girls such as yourself. line and k2 have skis in their linup that is womens park specific just as good as male skis just lighter. quit complaining know your facts before you make a ridiculous thread like this.
