Summer Setups... bad for skis?

A kid i know built a summer setup, and was telling me that the setup (or like... repeatedly hitting it) would be kinda bad for my skis. Like wear them down or something?

i figure a summer rail can't be any worse than a normal rail.

do summer setups fuck up your skis?



Btw, the rail is made of like the metal material you use for gutters.

as long as there arent rough edges on the rail or cuts in it, your not doing any more harm than a normal rail would. pvc rails dont harm skis at all as long as you dont have screws sticking out or big cuts in the pipes

it's a nice soft plastic rail actually.

all grass around the set-up, no dirt or rocks.

in theory no it would not be. But many elemnents of a summer set up can be rough on your skiis, but you knew that allready

My biggest fear is rust, always wipe your skis down good after any sesh, and be sure to have coverage on the ground for a landing, rocks dont do anything good to edges or wax. But you should be fine, I think this is a repost, because I recall in another thread everyone saying how summer sesh's are harmless.

maybe going over astroturf over and over again is bad for you bases. I dunno. Probly not.

MY skis were in perfect condish till i made my summer setup. I have huge gashes in my bases and a core shot. My friend snapped his suspects on his summer setup. Learn from our mistakes and get some old trash skis

I definitely wouldn't reccomend using new skis on a summer setup.  It might not break them or anything, but it's gonna get em really dirty and muddy and your gonna screw em up faster in the summer than on snow.

rails dont do anything wat ruins my skis is the rocks and shit that i land on.

siding rails in general is bad for skis, i do it, im not hating, im just sayin.

but summer setups arent really any worse, i mean you hit a rail a few times and your skis are never gonna be able to carve well or anything anymore, but thats why race skis arent twin tips eh?

well its not the rails that bad for skis, but the drop in steepness, i rockered my ar6's on a summer set up becuase the drop in ramp was a lil steep, and then the lip was rite after making a super quick steep trasition.

summer setups will always fuck up your bases, and depending on the setup you could do more damage. if your skis touch ANY dirt, it will scratch up your bases and a mixture of dirt and soap (or water) will dry out your bases after using them once. pick up a pair of trash skis, and join the build- a jib 101 cult, theres a good thread in there about what happens to new skis on summer setups. the water and dirt also wreck your bindings so find some shit bindings
