Am film companies stepping it up

Props to them, I'm looking forward to seeing ESK and NSF's movie this year, shit is going to be a huge improvement in terms of what we call "amateurs".

Who do you think is going to take home the coveted "Best Am Film" award at IF3 this year? Remember that 4bi9 is now considered a pro film and won't be competing with the rest of the am guys.

Both of those teasers are sick and all, but in all honesty they don't get me stoked.  They don't portray the fun of skiing.  I hope the movies show the personality of the riders and the fun side of skiing more.

I think they capture it a lot more than other trailers do.

I'm not in the backcountry throwing doubles or skiing AK lines every saturday, nor am I throwing up gang signs wearing 6XL clothing.

What trailers have gotten you stoked so far? Which movie did you appreciate the most last year, whether it be pro or am?

Oh I definitely agree, but that is a pro snowboard movie. We are talking about am ski films here.

Coming from a filmer standpoint NSF and ESK produced amazing trailers not only for AM but for anybody. There editing and riding was on another level.

But seriously, you teaser and the other one were probably the best two am teasers I have seen this year and rate up in the top few Ive seen. One thing I thought could have been a bit better would have been music similar to the song from ' Lets go get lost" which got me pretty stoked, rather than the slower less upbeat song. Thats personal preference though.

i got most stoked last year of ski block´s movie. it didn´t have as big of tricks or as good of editing as all the others, i just loved it for some reason. it was just fun.

NSF is really sick, they have a pretty nasty lineup too, they are dope at urban and also i saw their tremblant shoot with that hip in the first shot and it was crazy. I cant wait for their movie, they are definately big competition with the pro movies

I like both of the first two trailers, most notably the NSF trailer. They bring a fresh and new style to their edits. And I dont wanna judge too hard, cuz every1 has to start somewhere and thats what those guys do.

I am a film major at CU and its amazing to see how skiing videos have exploded recently. The quality and style of new ski films have been taken to a whole new level and its exciting to see how so many younger people want to buy cameras and editing equipment to make these movies. Poor boyz are the shit and i cant wait for their movie this year!!!

It shouldn't matter if it's pro snowboarding (it's hardly "pro").

I enjoyed both of these teasers, but I was just saying it would be nice to see them focus more on the fun side of skiing.  They did a good job with the epic vibe though and I know a ton of work goes into making this caliber movie.

I myself am producing an AM skiing and snowboarding (mixed omg!) film next season.  My goal is to create something that captures the good times we all have on our shred sticks because I feel that's lacking in most movies these days.

NIG is gonna win! and they should have left 4bi9 in am, slamina wasnt exactly a cinematic masterpiece, and beyond the last two parts it wasnt all that entertaining.

I might get butt raped for that but the new 4bi9 trailer didn't get me stoked one bite, I tought NSF and ESK were way more dope than 4bi9's

Agreed.  I was the first one to say it in the original trailer thread and thought I was going to get a major karma drain but other kids started saying the same thing.  To Real For TV had a sick trailer

I agree! Bentley really stepped it up this year with his filming and editing, not ot mention the riders themselves throwing bigger and better tricks.

I think we'll really see where 4bi9 stands after this years IF3, I don't personally think they should be in the pro category, but who knows they might surprise me. It also leaves room for another up and coming am movie to fill their boots...DOS maybe?

It sucks that 4bi9 is considered "pro" now.  I'm not sure who made that call, but So Far So Hood was made on a budget of around 1,500 I think.... With all of the riders paying out of pocket costs for stuff (minus Tom and Henrik of course).

Even though I have a biased opinion, I would consider their crew to be a legit, easy going and fun to be around most of the time. I was pretty surprised when I read your first statement because I never got that feeling when I was around them. They do work extremely hard (as doe all ams) and I'm extremely excited to see what they bring to the table this year.

As for the ESK guys, I've never been around kids so stoked on just skiing and I really think Nick will be able to capture that in his movie this year.

yeah I met a couple of them and Nick at CoC and they were definitly really chill and relaxed just stoked on skiing and they kill it hard!

Definately props to both , great editing and shots for any Am film company hands down. NSF had me more pumped, and it dragged me in a bit more than the other which felt like I was just watching, not necesarily Feeeling.

personally, I'm most looking forward to Outdoor Graduation by Volourz for "AM" videos this year... they are considered AM are they not?

nothing against those east coast guys and their jibbing, it's just that I like my west coast guys and their jibbing. what? no, it's not that I guess... whatever I just have a bias opinion so shut it!

You shut it. I'm stuck here for a while so I try to limit my viewing of west coast shit so that I don't drop of of school and quit my job to move back out to Rossland. You are living the life my friend.

Voleurz put out my favorite movie of the year last year, and will probably do the same this season. I'm not really sure what to consider them though...

So the question really is, what makes a company pro? Is it their riders? The budget behind a film? The amount of DVD sales? Is it purely based on the overall level of everything combined in the movie (riders, location, tricks, filming, editing, etc.)?
