ok so ive had an hp 8150p for a year now, running windows xp. last week it died. screen just went blue and then it shut off and when i turned it on i couldnt get into windows anymore. so my friend has a cd for vista, which i used to install vista on my computer. worked great for a day. now its dead again. what is going on? how can i fix it? 10/10 K for help

I don't know, but don't use the standard tech support. It's useless.

I would say, buy a new one. If your strapped for cash, be a manwhore for a while, and then buy a new one. Don't ask what to buy on NS though, everyone will say "macmacmacmacmacmacmac". I agree with them, but if you need a PC to do stuff like work and stuff, then don't let NS stop you from getting what you need.

I think thats caused by a virus.  Last thing to do would be system restore, usually fixes blue screen issues, but before that try to run a vir scan if you can or search the interwebs for the exact virus by the symptoms then figure out how to stop it.  just reinstalling vista created new files but left the old ones and the virus just moved...

This.  Although reinstalling windows may have fucked you over because now you might only be able to restore to the date when you first reinstalled your OS.  I'm not sure.  If you can get windows running, try a system restore. If you can't, maybe try safe mode like i mentioned above.  I would google your problem though I'm sure you can find some more specific answers on PC forums and shit.

This. If your computer doesn't start up, just reinstall from the disc and completely reformat your hard drive, like delete your C:/ drive and make yourself a purty new one.  Get all the shit you wanna keep offa there first though.

if you bring it to a store they will just try to make you buy a new computer or a bunch of new shit. go onto a real PC forum as well they usually are quick and come up with a real answer

Considering he installed a new partition and it crashed yet again, it seems that it's a hardware issue and not a software issue...Reinstalling a new operating system probably won't fix this.

If you actually want help, you need to be much more descriptive.  "last week it died. screen just went blue and then it shut off and when i turned it on i couldnt get into windows anymore. "  What happened when you used to start up your computer?  Could you not turn it on? Did it turn on, but not give you an option to load up into windows? if so, what did you see?  Did it turn on, or seem like it was turning on, then just shut off? 

"now it's dead again" - Do you need to charge it? Do you mean that it wont even turn on, even when the power cord is plugged in? Are you sure that your charger works?  Have you tried another one?

The blue screen that you saw is very common to over-heating.  My only suggestion to you now, knowing absolutely no specifics, is to dust the inside of your computer using Dustoff or some other compressed canned air product.  And if possible, try running your computer on a cooling pad(if you have one) and see if it works then.

I kinda have the same exact thing on my Hp inspiron 530S. But i got the blue screen to go away...can i can still log onto my account, and download shit from limewire..but it wont let me connect to the internet...and it will randomly freeze up...sometimes after 3 mins...sometimes when im lucky after 3 hours. And now when i log into my main account, most of my shit is gone, i cant get on limewire or anything...but all my shit is still on this account..and i can get onto limewire....idk its just all fucked up.

all you need to do is get ahold of a windows install disk and pop it in.  you can chose to reinstall it and it will delete everything on your computer and go from scratch.  I would suggest taking all of your files and everything off of the computer before you do this, because youll lose everything

No, like i said before the virus, unless you get rid of it, whioch reinstalling will not do, still lurks and will eventually reinstall into the right place. the key is finding whatvirus it is, but thats difficult

I had to wipe the memory on mine and unplug everything, plug it back in and it worked. But i had no memory on my computer... now i have a mac and am ten millions times happier.

virus' are deleted upon reinstalling a os unless you do it through the desktop

when you installed vista did you update all drivers? my laptop recently had this problem and it turned out one of the driver updates messed my computer up

sounds more like hardware related if you reinstalled on a new partition. though it would be handy to know what the blue screen said becore it turned off. nect time you can start up your computer i'd backup as much important data as you can.

does your computer make any weird noises when you turn it on? than can be a sign on hardware failure, usually something bad about to happen to the hdd.

there is a linux utility you can download to boot from a usb drive that lets you run a series of tests and if required reformat your hdd. that will get rid of any viruses.

it doesnt always mean the worst, it just means something went wrong somewhere and windows doesnt know what to do.  So it throws up that error screen to help you.

ya this happened to my computer twice! the first time i sent it to a computer company and they fixed it then it happened again and then my mom got a mac so i put it in a closet and havnt touched it since. but i think it can be fixed if you send it to a computer fixing place.
