Skiing and Creativity

So I just came upon Technine's Hard To Earn, and the creativity of the riding blew my mind. The features, tricks, etc...

check it out, it's unreal


It seems to me like skiing is still lagging behind snowboarding in terms of getting creative in setups and shots, and I'd love to see some skiing on things like what's in this vid.

I don't mean to complain, cause I don't know the first thing about editing or photoshoots on natural features, etc...not meant to be hate, just an observation.

Thoughts?

that was super sick though, and as much as id like to say skiing is more creative, that kinda would prove my point incorrect. come on ns, we need to step up our game and do some more creative stuff!

The features and angles were amazingly creative but not so much the tricks.  They seemed typical but enhanced by the features.

I don't think skiers are lagging in terms of style of tricks or technical difficulty, just the creativity that you mentioned

ya i kinda see what your saying, but at the same time everything was performed with sooooo much style, the one rail thing at 1:00 or whatever was insane, i just love the little tweak he puts into it.  a lot of their hits were pretty big and technical too, no hate or anything to each is own i suppose

wow sick. those wallrides and drops were awesome. and i see what your sayin, snowboard movies, as a whole tend to be less porn and more artistic, that being said, level 1, plehouse, and a few others have always put out highly creative, and well cinomagraphed stuff.

I feel like another reason snowboarders can be more more creative than skiers is because they have boards not skis.  If a skier tried to grind the top of a fence they would catch an edge.  When a snowboarder does it he has one large surface and thus it is easier to stay balanced and prevent the catching of an edge.
I would also like to point out that except for one or two, all the shots were urban.  In all ski trailers there are shots of everything.  I feel that if skiers made an only urban movie it would be extremely creative.

nice thread, this one... it's something i've noticed as well, but i guess it's just a problem of getting used at it...

i mean, we can call "creativity" the skill of being able to find a different way to shred a feature than the common and plain one or the ability to see a way to do it even if at first sight it seems impossible; i believe that it is something you learn through experience and "opening" your eyes...
it's like being able to find some good line when you freeride, it's something that comes to you by time and practice...

one of the most amazing thing i enjoy to do when skiing or snowboarding is actually being able to shred with this creativity, without the need of being too technical or going big (which, by the way, i can barely do)... so, i've found my way to have the most fun i can get, coming to the very meaning of freeskiing...

it's something i learnt watching videos, i guess Robot Food with 2002 Afterbang (yes, at the beginning it was the title of a snowb flick lol) lead the way, or Think Thank ones; and i'm happy to find this kind of attitude in freeski movies as well, like L1 productions or 4bi9

so i think it's just matter of attitude, not some kind of limitations of freeskiing in itself, and of being able to look at things from a different perspective...

Ya thats what I think too, personally I think skiing is very creative also, at least this years films and trailers so far.  Someone just started the trend of hating on creativity in skiing so everyone else jumped on it IMO.  I think this edit is pretty creative though, some of those urban gaps were fucking huge, it takes a creative mind to be able to even comprehend doing that.

Fucking sick but not all that creative... Most things are rails to bomb drops. Dont get me wong some crazy sick tricks and big big features but nothing that new or mind blowing. Take a look at Will Wessons Pow Award winning jib line, that is creative.

i would rather watch some EP hit some pillows, or Sage SLAY the tits out of some massive AK monster, than a few upperclass "thugged out" snowboarders.  No offense to any upper class thugs, or snowboarders, but I am a skier, so skiing resounds alot better inside of me than snowboarding does. 

I think we can all agree that sage has bigger balls than any of those T9 fools.  I love rails as much as the next guy, but AK is no joke.  Some of that stuff is straight death defying.
