Hey guys. Haven't posted in NSG is ages, I know this probably would make more sense in a water-driven online community but who are we kidding. We aren't skiing, we are forced to summer jibs and waterskiing/skating.boarding.
Summer hit, and after learning how to wakeskate early in the season i thought why not just build one? So ya, I did. Well... am.. thats where you guys come in.
I made it out of 1/8" hardwood. 6 layers. Woodglued them all together and put it in a press
I read the best rocker is between 1.5-3" respectfully on both the tip and tail. I maxed it out and went with a 3" rocker in both. Its to much (if any of you are thinking about building one. go with about 2") Anyways, rocker:
Then i spent a while shaping it, cutting it, and sanding it. After that, it was fin time. My boardshop wanted fucking 40 bucks for a pair of wakeskate fins. I told them that price better come with a good solid hum dinger. They declined so I was off to make my own. I just used the same wood as a board, and dropped it 3/8" (half the board) and epoxied it. It worked. Then I used fiberglass resin with hardener to coat it for strength but mostly for waterproofing.
So now you know where im going with this.
a) grip tape
b) foam tape
c) wax
Its thursday night and I am heading off to the cottage right after work tomorrow and I want to take this thing with me and get on er! I picked up some sexwax and I am just going to use that this weekend and see how that works. I have never used shoes before which is why I stayed away from grip tape. And foam tape, is expensive and i couldn't find any locally.
Those of you that wakeskate, I know surf wax will work (but not how well), what do you reccomend for a top layer for grip?
