40D with 17-85 IS USM, aka 40D with kit lens. it's pretty sick for a kit lens though.

to answer the last comment, it was created in photomatix and then lightly edited in photoshop.

Film can capture a dynamic range of approximately 11 stops, each stop having twice as much light as the next, digital can capture even more dynamic range.

what i mean is, this is completely unnecessary to do an "HDR" on these photos.

I personally dislike HDR photos.

1 out of 500+ are done properly, and even those aren't worth the time it takes to do them and learn how to do them properly.

Just my opinion though.

i love how people police HDR photo's.

lets get this straight, THERE IS NOT A RIGHT AND WRONG WAY TO DO IT.  as long as you actually do an HDR photo, it can be over the top, or barely touched, who is to say your doing it wrong?

no-one. especially fags that go "zomg stop doing hdr's they look soooo badzz lyke oh noooesss1!!11!!!!"

Go here, read this, I think you will learn a lot. There IS a right and wrong way to do things. The same can be said for HDR.

so much hate haha, i think they look good for a first try. check out that site and i think it helps to have a good range of light and color in the original photo to make it pop more as an hdr

and photography/hdr is an art, there isnt a right way or a wrong way to do it because it is supposed to speak for itself.  maybe an overdone HDR image is supposed to give the image a fake feeling? maybe thats what he was going for because it looks cool?

saying your doing an HDR wrong is like telling Picasso his paintings are fucked up.  obviously its up to the photographer to decide how he wants them.  do you have the right to an opinion on whether or not you like it? of course, just like i dont like Picasso's paintings, doesnt mean i tell him (hah) he is doing them wrong.

^agreed. while i do not usually like overdone HDR (which the posted ones are not really. i am not sure they needed to be HDR though), it can be a great effect, as seen here:

Aside from the fact that Picasso had something to say with his style that was wholly unrelated to everything else being done at the time, yes.  I want to comprehend the point you are trying to make, but that was a poor, poor analogy. 

I see HDR as a trend that will come and pass....hopefully sooner rather than later.  The reason most people like the images is because they are so different from what we actually percieve, but for me photography is more about individual perspective rather than actually altering the image to something it is not.

Damn, and to think I thought I was going to learn something. I shoulda known better.

Someone care to explain what HDR is? so far I've gathered it's supposed to be a cartoonish look without being a cartoon, and it's done with multiple pictures? Google would probably give me a real answer, but that's just silly.

Oh shut up. I never said anything about the first photo, in fact his wasnt all that bad, I was mostly referring to some of the other photos.

lol  call me a hipster again because I hate your D40 soccer mom-esqk (?) over saturated photos. I cant wait till you trendwhores figure out everything PS can do.. but seriously man, just admit it. You can't take an interesting enough photo of an object so you resort to hdr to make up for you inability to capture great colors/attention.

Bring on the flame war! (but first note which individuals are for and against hdr's, see Jason (MFK) up there? Wait doesn't he do that whole photography thing pretty seriously? BamBam? yeah I think he gets paid for his skills..  But they don't know anything compared to your and your bracketing enabled Nikon D40 with kit lens!


I can't expose right so I bracket to hdr! Go me!

I know what PS can do and I personally dont like overly done HDR (if you even read what i wrote before). I actually take three separate shots exposing to my liking and not using AEB at all.. thanks...

and props to the pros who can shoot "interesting photos" and HDR's.. i like taking photos but am no where near the level they are...


and btw.. i use a canon.. thanks..

Your photos suck.

not very nice is it. so dont go getting all "superior" on everyone else. Plus, D40s dont do AEB so......ye. And i dont see whats wrong with owning a D40 and kit lens really, thats what it looks like you shoot with from your pictures......not everyone has thousands of pounds to spend on a hobby. you're a dick.
