How can I shorten my ski poles?

So I have two pairs, and both are to big. Actually, they are the right size, but I want shorter polls because they are fucking annoying trying to ski around flatland and having to make huge strokes, and they don't help me balance at all. So, how would I go about shortening a pair of them? Is it something I could do at home? And I don't want to ruin the polls, both paris are newer and i'de be pissed if they got f***ed somehow.

pull the grips off, then take a saw to that shit and cut as much off as u want.

Ok, I feel stupid now, I have a sawzaw and shit, but whats the best way to get the grips off? I kinda tried before, but I was worried Ide rip them or something and fuck up the whole pole, I was pulling pretty hard, and the whole point of doing it myself is saving money.

pulling off the grips is not easy, try soaking them in hot water, then jam them in a sturdy door and just yank them off. Make sure you have someplace to fall on cause there going to pop off

heat them up with a hair dryer or heat gun then either put them inbetween your feet and pull up, or in a door way close the door on the grip then pull. and the get the right length cut them to where you think it might be good, then turn the pole over and hold it at the spike to see if its exactly right.

if you can i would also take the straps off of the handles, because i you have the scott poles with leather straps the hot water will fuck those up.

Yea, thanks everyone, I got the grips off easily after soaking them in hot water for a few minutes. Its 2:42 am where I live right now, so the cutting will be for tomorrow. One more thing, will the grips still stick on the polls fine after they have been off? Im assuming they will, because they expanded from the heat, and once they cool off they should shrink or whatever.

They should, but if they don't, just gorilla glue that stuff.  It works miracles.

Yeah, I think this.  You may even have to use a hammer to bat 'em down all the way.  But they should stick.

Thanks everyone, karma for sure. I used a plumbing pipe cutter to cut the poles and get a clean edge. The grips went on with a good bit of force, and they seem to be stuck on there pretty good.
