Ok
So this line (Whistler Peak Chair) is my favourite, because no one else had skiied it all year, and because it was my first run on whistler, 5 years ago. It scared me then, and it sscared me every time i was up there. Yes I came from the left, where you drop in the cirque, and cut hard left, and get on top of the cliff (its scary cause its exposed, at a bad angle, blind drop, and if the snow slides, youre dead)
you can ski across the upper part quite easily, but I wanted to get closer to the edge. You see the small line of snow? the closest you could get to the edge?
Thats the line i ski.
Now granted, this was a few days after i went over, and there was a bit more snow than in the picture.
I had already skiied it twice that morning, and was on my 3rd run. The snow was bad (melting, heavy) and rocks were poking out.
My skis dropped through the snow and ran into a hidden rock, which caused me to fall over on my stomach.
When I landed, it triggerred an avalanche which slid me towards the edge (only 4 feet away at this point)
I only had time for one thought "Do a front flip as you go over, get your feet under you"
Then i blacked out for 30 min or so until the ski patrol showed up and i was like I feel fine!
except for all the injuries:
3 Broken spinous processes, Femur, rotator cuff ligament, split elbow, broken ribs, 4 inch laceration to the head, and extensive bruising, lots deep and on the bone.
But im lucky to live, and I will be ok, relatively.
I have nerve damage in my thigh, and am atrophying badly.
i can walk now, and bike,
carefully of course,
and so begins the road to recovery.
