Bands and how their styles change

You know what I am sick of... are people who are saying this band is a sellout, or this band has changed etc etc etc.. Yes, their are some bands who have absolutely sold themselves out because of the glammer and bullshit. But their are alot of bands who used to rock the fuck out when they were younger and the older they get, their style changes because it has to. For example:
Green Day, Metallica, Incubus, 311, etc...
Green Day and Metallica are on a totally different level then incubus and 311, but im trying to prove a point
The older a band gets, and its members get olders their styles change. Your not going to be able to fucken rock out with your cock out like you did when you were 17. Shit half of these musicians have kids and a family, they arent going to be writing about the shit they were writing about when they were 17 compared to that they are around 30-40 years old now
Stop bitching about bands changing and or selling out, yes some sell out, but some just get old in age, and viewpoints change after a while...

i agree. but i don't think bands slow down because they can't jump around on the stage and sing bloody murder. you get older, you mature, your sound changes because your interests change. a lot of young bands with explosive energy don't have a complex sound, its just youthful and raw. all great bands progress by fine tuning their sound - and in this process their interests change. take the fucking beatles for example, they started off as basically a boy band, but by their end they had obviously done some major exploring. i don't like the chili peppers, but i respect them as being a soundly good band, and they have done the same thing. You're right about how annoying people are about calling artists sellouts. With age comes knowledge, i don't see why that shouldn't apply to musicians.

^ yeah your different right.....
I mean there are some bands who have really sold themselves out though... in a way i think Limp Bizkit sold out, 3 dollar bill was completely different then any of their other albums, but then it again it was their first released album and its not like they had 30 years to mature and their style changed because of that, it changed because of exposure, money, and bithces, and after faith MTV rode their dick all day long, and their style just went so poppy, and then they collabed with alot of mainstream artists, but i still respect them as a band, cause they do their thing and i cant hate on it i guess... wes boreland left = bye bye limp bizkit
im tryin to think of some other bands..... I really loved reel big fish's turn the radio off, but no way did they ever sell out, their newer albums just never impressed me..... i dunno

some bands probably get bored. Playing the same stuff over and over would get old.

Some bands that keep the same style are selling out. They know people like what they did so they try and copy there last album just so they can make some money.

Miles Davis is an excellent example of this. His music changed completly, and still undisputedly (sp?) one of the best artist ever.

yeah people change, same as bands. but if the band builds up tons of hardcore fans, then changes, while still being the same band, do you catch my drift, huh?

It's not always going to be fulfilling to members of the band to make albums that all have the same style. It's not fulfilling as an artist. I think a prime example is Saves the Day. I've been a fan for a long time, and their new CD came out and it's totally different, and I don't like it at all. But I do understand the motivation. And I think bands like that don't necessarily expect all their fans to like the new stuff. You write for yourself first, your fans second.

The other thing to consider, besides age and number of albums affecting the sound is also members change and take/bring their influences to the band. I think a perfect example of this is Phunk Junkeez. Their first album was sick (in my opinion) and came out in 95 or 96 I think, then they lost a key member and the sounds went to crap, they totally lost their edge.
Other times bands are influenced by media, look at Staind, they were basically a hard core band out of Springfield, MA, then got signed and went more metal/metal core route, and then went huge with more mellow songs, and they switched their style to what sold more records.
Personally, I don't mind bands that change becasue they have changed (think Beatie Boys and how their sound has changed from Lisence to Ill to now), everyone grows up at some point and of course that is going to be reflected in music, but what bothers me is when people/bands change because of profit. Granted bands are out there to make money (can you blame em), but what happened to them, most musicians struggle and try to make a name for themselves because they love the music, does their love of what they do somehow get corrupted by greed and potential profit? who knows.
