If I'm looking at a symmetrical ski, and I still want all mountain performance, will center mounting decrease it's performance? I know it will be better in the park, but are there any consequences to riding groomers and trees etc. I was looking at the atomic punx. I know it is a very flexy ski and it is the right graphic and everything for me, but I've read reviews and it sounds like it would be an acceptable choice for riding some groomers. Thanks
You should never mount a symmetrical ski anywhere but true center.
Center mounts ride all mt. fine...sure, they're a bit different, but I think for the most part the disadvantage is overstated. That being said, they'll obviously ski "shorter", so buy bigger than you would otherwise.
i have head mojo two's and i have them centermounted and they rid great all mountain and im pretty sure their not reccomended center b/c ive never seen anyone else with center
I center mounted ski will ski a bit different, but once you get used to it, you will forget all about it. And a symmetrical ski should ONLY be center mounted.
You buy symmetrical skis so you can totally reap the benefits of mounting at center. You don't lose anything by mounting at them center, but the performance decreases if you choose a more traditional mount.
If you want to ski all mountain, get an all mountain ski.
If you like what a center mounted ski has to offer, then buy it and mount it in accordance with the design.
I know what you're talking about. My hope is that I can still enjoy the mountain but also progress in the park from the very beginner level park skiing I am at right now.
You will definitely still be able to enjoy the whole Mtn riding center, plus later on after you progress more and get some new sticks, you will already be used to a center mount. No point in my mind to learn to slide rails and spin with your bindings 2-3 inches back from center, just to get new skis in the future and have them center mounted.
