Steroids in Baseball Survey, need NS help!

I'm not offering karma, so if you actually care about that, fuck off.

I'm taking a summer course in which we're writing a research paper (a piece of which has to come from our own research) and this survey will play a role in that. It's ONLY 5 QUESTIONS!

Any and all response would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, if you do respond, I'd appreciate a quick little acknowledgement in this thread.

Done, If you can find a place in you're paper for it, Pete Rose would be a great person to bring up on the issue of stats being null with performance enhncing drugs. Pete Rose was clean and had the most hits in baseball history, but his stats are null because he bet on games that he wasn't even involved in. If his stats aren't worth anything, then Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Roger Clemens, Jose Concseco, and Manny Ramirez shouldn't get credit for anything they've done.

That my friend is an excellent argument....and I wholeheartedly agree with you there. This paper is less about "taking a stance" or persuasion, and more about simply conveying the "facts" if you will.

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond though.

I done did it.  Steroids are ruining baseball and as much as I love A-Rod and most other players who have obtained great achievements in the sport by using steroids, I don't believe they deserve to hold the records and certainly don't deserve to go to the hall of fame.

I feel like rookies of that era had no choice but to take steroids because all their competition was taking them. i would have if i was trying to make the mlb. i can't imagine what the players must have thought when they saw all their teammates cheating and then beating them to the bigs. they must have thought they had too to keep up with everyone else. Simply due to the fact that such a large amount of players took steroids i think records should be kept from this "steroid" era in baseball.

absolutely. My expectations for quality are somewhat limited as 1.) This is a summer course in which a typical 15 wk syllabus is crammed into 5 wks and this is a fairly ambitious topic, and 2.) it's a group project, which seems to always mean that the quality is up and down (assuming you don't peer pressure someone into doing the whole thing), but I'll post the paper for those interested.

We've got nearly fifty responses thus far, I'd love to see 100+. If you guys have any friends/family members who are baseball fans who might be interested, please pass the link along.

As far as the no karma thing goes, I suppose I just think it's a stupid system and I know that I'm constantly annoyed by all the "+++++K" threads, or people shamelessly looking for karma....not to mention, Rowen recently posted a thread threatening to delete such threads....

BUT if karma is important to you, PM me and maaaaaybe I'll strap it up.

Another excellent point.

We're talking about livelihoods here....it's easy to take a self-righteous stance and denounce performance enhancers as simply "cheating" but does the blame lie with individuals, or the culture/atmosphere?

Furthermore, are "performance enhancers" or "steroids" simply an evolution? After all...why isn't a rigid workout schedule and a better diet considered cheating? How about the composition of bats...or the way balls are made?

I'm not passing judgement, or even taking a stance, but I wanted to raise those q's because I think this issue is often oversimplified.

Done. I'm pretty much against steroid usage, but i fail to see how nullifying the records of users would help. It's such a wide-spread practice that the playing filed is leveled by the fact that everybody takes it. That being said, i hold a great deal more respect for those few players that don't give in than those who do.

And for those bitching about karma: Get a life. Noooooone cares about it. Here's a newsflash: If you reeeeaallly care about your karma here's what you do: Post a few product reviews, upload 30 or 40 pics (of whatever), upload a handful of videos, write a couple of blog entries, Log on and off a bunch, create a few threads that get a lot of views/posts, comment on pics/vids/articles, and watch your karma soar. Truthfully, other member's rating of you does very little for karma.

Also.....read Rowen's thread where he specifically says that any and all threads soliciting and offering karma for random shit will be DELETED!

actually i was on a computer with a limited connection. and when you read rowen's thread, did you interpret it as "you cant give away karma anymore,  you have to say fuck you instead" because all he said was that you cant advertise a free karma give away. you can still give karma to every person in this thread for being a good member and helping a fellow nser out, but you don't have to advertise it.

Wooooooow you made a club?......as I said, that number has nothing to do with what kind of person you actually are. Get over it, It's really not that big of a deal...the system is horribly flawed, it's subject to manipulation, and really means dick all in terms of someone's actual attitude/contribution/quality of posts.

There's people with over 100,000 who are total assholes, and there's people with under 1000 who are incredibly helpful. The primary difference? The guy with 100,000 has 47 pics of himself in the mirror with full ski gear in mid June, and posts 3 different versions of his "promo" which is him dancing around on a flat box, and the guy with 1000 doesn't give a fuck if he has cool outerwear.

Honestly man, if you think it actually means something, you're kidding yourself. Not to mention, if you're only willing to help because someone is going to give you some imaginary/arbitrary e-cookie, you don't deserve it anyway.

Thanks for derailing my thread with your nonsense...for that, you get 0/10, feel free to return the favor. Guess what the difference will be though...

One last thank you to everyone! We closed down the survey, and tallied the results. Pretty interesting...truthfully, almost all of the results were what we sort of anticipated with the exception of the "nullifying" of stats of those linked to roids.

I'll post the results of the answers soon, probably along with the paper itself for those who might be interested,

Again, thanks everyone for the feedback/suggestions/etc. I knew I could count on NS...we had nearly 100 respondents in less than a day and a half...perfect.

Oh yeah, some of the kids who were butt hurt over the karma thing attempted to "sabotage" the survey,,,bahaha...ohhhh children. One kid wrote "How do you get to Chad's..." which was legitimately hilarious. If THAT guy claims responsibility, he def gets k.
