How to get the best action shots out of a pentax camera?

so i now have a pentax km 100 digital slr.  i was taking some pictures on action sports mode the other sunny day, and fast moving people were blurry.  any thoughts on how to sharpen pictures\people?  thanks

i dont know exactly what it is like on your camera (googled it and couldnt find a pentax km 100) but stick it on shutter priority mode and try to get something above 1/250 or 1/500 for a shutter speed. this should freeze motion

k thanks man.  and yeah im not sure if its a km 100,  i do know its some sort of km.  thats great advice.  will the higher shutter speed work in lower light conditions?

well, it depends on what your aperture is set at. for example, if you were shooting at 1/60 with f11, you could shoot at 1/250 at about f2.8 (i think i did that right, its late and i am tired though haha). if you were shooting 1/60 at f2.8, then a higher shutter speed wouldn't work unless you had more light or a higher iso.

first off, not being a dick, but read the manual

here're a few ways to get better action shots

turn down your aperture- if you're shooting at f/2.8 you will be able to get a faster shutter speed than if you shoot at f/20. the downside to a wider aperture is smaller depth of field, but for action portraits that generally isn't a problem

turn up your ISO- this allows much faster shutter speeds but you sacrifice quality and noise appears. iso 100 will be sharpest but iso 1600 will give you the fastest shutter speed

your shutter speed needs to be at least 1/250 or higher depending on what you're shooting
