Today, I went to go get my bindings adjusted for my trip to Momentum this coming Tuesday. My friend drove me to my local shop to pick them up, and two other friends were in the car. I'm going to call the driver "Rick", friend number one "Jack", and friend number two "Mo". So as I'm at the counter picking up my skis, Rick, Jack, and Moe are looking at skis in the back. When I get my skis, the guy asks me if I want to pay now or go look around. I tell him I'll go look at stuff with my friends and pay in a few minutes. He puts them up front.
As my friends are looking at skis, Rick starts thinking it would be a good idea to steal a pair. Jack gets in on the plan. Mo, a good, quiet kid who's never done anything wrong, stays quiet. I tell them they're retarded. They don't listen. So we go upstairs to look at some stuff, and then Rick and Jack go back downstairs. When Mo and I go downstairs, I pay for my skis and we leave out the front door.
Walking back to the car, I see Rick and Jack standing by the car, Rick saying, "Dude, you fucked up the plan!" I ask what plan he's talking about, as I never heard about any plan. He tells me his plan, I don't really listen. So I sit in the car with my skis, and Rick, Jack, and Mo go back inside. A few minutes later, Mo comes out the front door and sits in the car with me. Another few minutes later, Rick and Jack burst out the back door with two pairs of skis, throw them in the back, and drive off.
Fucking great, I'm thinking. Just awesome. $900 of stolen merchandise in this car. Rick is freaking out, so is Jack. We pull over in the nearby grocery store parking lot so they can look at their awesome shit they just stole, and so we can get food for the barbecue we were supposed to have.
Just then I get a call from my dad. He says, "I just got a call from the manager of the ski shop. Do you want to tell me what just happened?" I ask what he means, and he replies, "Well, he said he saw your two friends exit out the back door on video tape, and the police are out searching for Rick's car. Do you want to tell me what just happened?" So I tell him, "Yes. Rick and Jack stole two pairs of skis. I had nothing to do with it, I swear." He says, "Tell them they have ten minutes to get back to the shop and return the stuff, and they might have a chance. You stay where you are. I'm coming to get you."
So I tell Rick, and he flips out, asks me if I'm serious, and I tell him that I am and that he needs to get on the fucking road ASAP. Jack is flipping out too, as his parents aren't home. But they both go back to the shop. Mo stays with me. My dad comes, leaves Mo stranded in the parking lot, and I say, "I'm sure there are a lot of things you'd like to say to me right now, so I'll let you start." He replies, "I have nothing to say to you, other than that you've lost your opportunity to go to Whistler."
Rick and Jack were arrested. They face criminal charges as stealing more than $500 of merchandise is a class C felony. I am most likely not allowed to go to camp, something I've been begging to do for 3 years, because they decided to be retarded while I was around. I'm grounded until they decide what to do.
I stayed out of it, and tried my very hardest to make the right decisions. In hindsight, I should have called my parents and told them what was going on and asked them to come get me at the shop. But I didn't even realize that was a possibility. I was almost arrested, and would have been if the store manager hadn't been a saint and saved my future, as well as Mo's future. I am unspeakably angry at Rick and Jack. Thoughts, anyone?
