im looking into buying a tv (to be used mainly for gaming, and tv) and was wondering if someone who is more knowledgable on the subject than i am can guide me in the right direction. I know the basics about the tv technologies and resolutions, but i do have a few questions... (I have a 360 so the gaming needs should be addressed to that) first, is 1080p really that much better when it comes to gaming? ive heard a few times that most tvs automatically convert it to 1080i when running from an xbox... is that true? Im content with a 720p (seems to work better on shooters compared to 1080i, but pretty much the same in my eyes) so if its really not much better then that's fine. does pixel resolution numbers (like hd vs super hd/all the other names at like 1920x1080) make a big difference? I feel like im ranting so i guess most important is what do you think matters most when searching for this tv? if it helps, im looking for a smaller one (about 20-26 inch) that is reliable and capable to do what i need for a price as low as possible (~400-500 range). thanks guys, i know its a lot of shit but lets face it, this is ns and there are people on here that know the answers
considering one... they lack some of those top end features if im not mistaken. not sure if that's important yet tho. thats why this thread exsists. thanks for the suggestion tho
well you are stuck with an lcd screen- that the first thing done- the reason is that the only plamas in that size are expensive ass computer monitors- next in that size it is also extremley hard and expensive to get a 1080p signal- for instance- a 32 1080p tv is gonna be at least 650- now for a 26 inch i can't find any that is an actual good tv- you are looking at a few sonys and some panasonics- expect to pay around 600+-0 my personal recomendation would be stay with 720p and get a better picture quality- sure you can go with a cheap brand like Vizio, Insignia, Dynex, proscan, and countless others- but as far as picture quality is where they lack-for a 26 you can spend anywhere between 280 for a cheap and okay model(dynex 26 10a for instance) if your looking for a better picture expect around 450- in this price you will find numerous brands- sony is going to give you a nice natural looking picture as well as asharp- my choice for gaming would be samsung- they put a gloss coat over the top of their screens that gives you a deeper color field- the drawback is more glare tho- brands like lg, toshiba, rca and a few other are good mid-level tvs- take a look at them too-
ps- dont ever judge a tv by the contrast ratio- nobody uses the same way to rate them so the numbers are completly biased
Make sure you get a 1080p display. 720p really isn't high definition and you lose so much resolution in the jump. The other thing is to make sure that the display has a 120hz refresh rate. This prevents motion blur and increases the 'speed' of the TV for video games and sports.
you seriously dont need these things in this small of a tv plus they dont even make a 120hz 26 inch tv- besides id go with plasma- better picture quality- cheaper- and 600hz
