How do you make turf faster?

posted in build a jib 101, diddnt get any answers

ok so i've used all types of soap(powder,liquid) but i think i could get more speed, (without pushing)

fuck, guys i already use construction fence. i thought that since you people have small ass dropins and long rails there was something i was missing but never mind if you have some thing els to post other than soap or fence dont post it

Drop it out of an airplane. 

Seriously, haven't tried it yet but "J Jelly"  basically KY for livestock.  $15 bucks for a gallon.  I will be testing it out soon on a turf drop in.  Dilute with water.  If that doesn't work; there's something wrong with your skis.

THE KEY IS TO PUT WAX ON YOUR SKIS.!  no lie. Every 6 or 7 runs just rub 30 to 50 degree wax on yur skis. its CRAZY how much better it is. we almost have to use no water on our setup now.

what i've seen that works way good is get the orange fencing for the drop in and then turf for the lip cause the on the fence you can't hold an edge at all. and try tire shine for lubing the turf. works great at the jib yard

im doing this this weekend....

make the rollers like the jibyard with 2 size pvc pipes drill 1 to a piece of wood and put the one that is drilled inside of a bigger one so that it can spin. make the drop in with it any way you want im making mine like a ladder

true true but how ever far you live its well worth the drive. its such a progressive place, they let you raelly put what rail you want where you want. you can control your speed great. and it does not hurt to land bad

well some of us live on the east coast so i dont think it would be worth it to drive for 2 days to just ski rails that i could be using in my backyard givin the right materials.

If you really want to get alot of speed for the drop-in the key word is friction... less friction = faster speeds. turf generates the most friction out of the options you have. next comes tarp.. tarp is a little bit better but still requires alot of soap. then i would assume (never used it) the next would be the fencing. but the key to making it go fast is no friction so the only way I know how to get that is by creating a roller system, example: the jibyards rollers are perfect because there is no friction what so ever. the cheapest way i know how to make rollers is pvc pipes. 2 sizes one inside the other and a find some way to make them so that when you ski over them the smaller one inside stays and the outer one rolls... the way that i made my rollers is i made a lader and each 6 inches i have a roller.

Afteri experimented with soap and water wet it like every 3 runs and i use green soap that comes in buckets of 5l

i still found i needed more speed so i did following things:
1) i simply raised my tower, i put it on top of a dirtpile, now its about 2ft higher and its anchored in the dirt
2) i mellowed every transition, my whole running length got longer but it works better + you feel more secure...
3) the steeper the drop-in the more speed you gain, soft drop-ins lose much energy to friction, problem with steep drops is that you have to get a fine transition otherwise it wont work....
4) not really making the turf faster, but the rails, my hdpe needed some sanding , it was getting too beat up... eventually i turned it over and it works better, so keep your sliding surface smooth...
5) pretty much the same thing for turf, keep it smooth, allways run over it in the same direction, go with the hairs/grass, not against it (yes, old turf is usually faster, unless ofcourse its really beat-up)
6) i apply soap with a broom, i rub it in, creating lots of foam, this slides the best+ i brush in the same direction as i ski...
7) i made starting handles to push off (this works good, especially if you don't use poles
8) jump-in instead of drop-in, every height you gain is translated into more speed...
9) my latest addition: orange snowfence on top of my turf, works great, this should be the first thing you change, it works so much better!

You could use a lube of some kind. Also if you want to get more technical, get soap bars and scrubs the shit out of them where ever and the soap will get off. Never tried it, but it seems like a good idea.






Oh I almost forgot wet it afterwards.

This isn't the same soap and water your used too.

yeah my friend bryan, FREEskiLINE has his setup in his backyard, with turf on the whole thing and on the top there was snow fence so it was faster, but no snow fence on the bottom for better mobility spinning on. it works much better

Put the orange fence OVER the turf, in a coulpe layers if you have enough and wet it down every ten minutes or so and its like ice
