Skiing: Does it take athleticism?

After countless arguments with my brother, friends, and adults I have come to the conclusion that skiing takes very little athletic capacity. How many of you have seen an obese skier absolutely kill it? Some of my brother's friends don't play sports, don't run, and don't have any athletic motivation at all, but still manage to impress me on the slopes. This topic has probably been surfaced upon before, but it was on my mind so I decided to post anyways. I'm not sure if I am including racing in my argument, but thats up to you to decide. What do you guys think?

To dial a trick It takes a ton of athleticism. Both natural strength (lightness on your feet) and coordination.
Narrow hips and long, heavy arms make style improve, especially if youre going without poles.

I know right, it wasn't till I got to my own post before I looked at the date. 27 year old me has the same feelings as 17 year old me, skiing takes more coordination that "athleticism". A lot of park skiing is in the mind, the fitness comes after / necessary at an extremely high level.

We'll give this a bump in another ten years and see how I feel haha. BTW the skiing top to bottom at Whistler / BC was the most tired I've ever been in my life. I've never had to stop to rest while skiing regular runs until Whistler back in January. Y'all locals must have some crazy thunder thighs.

shedddI'm hoping is and when I'm 80 I will have acquired enough skills to still have fun with greatly reduced athleticism. At present I'm training pretty hard to up my athleticism and help acquire more skills (and have fun of course).

Skiing bumps and trees gets me winded af, so yes, you need endurance, leg strength, and core strength. Park not so much, but at the top level yes. There is a reason you always see Henrik conditioning on the spinner bike in videos.
