This is coming from some one who gets a lot of new gear each year. I mean a lot. Right now I have 7 pairs of skis that I did not have a year ago.
To be honest I wish I did not. Not for financial reasons, I don't pay for most of it, and that which I do I can generally get cheap or used.
No the reason I wish I did not get new gear is because I enjoy skiing more when I don't care about the color of my jacket, or the brand and model of the skis attached to my feet. Unfortunately I often do care, and I don't think I have ever enjoyed a day on the hill more because I had a really sick set up or brand new skis. I see people out there every day who have 10-20 year old gear, and as often as not these are the people who seem to be enjoying themselves the most.
This next year I am going to try and not think to much about the gear I have. with 10 pairs of skis it can be difficult to decide which pair to take out. Skiing should not require thought like that. I don't want it to matter. From hear on out I am a recovering gear head.
