Ok so I have a 2004 Subaru WRX turbo with the factory bars installed already. All I need is the rack itself, and I am torn between these two racks right now:
Obviously the Thule rack is much cheaper, comes with locks, has a lifetime warranty, and can hold a decent number of skis and boards. However, the Yakima rack claims to be able to hold "6 pairs of fat skis or 4 snowboards" which would be awesome, but they don't define how big a "fat ski" is. I want the largest, highest quality rack I can fit on the car because I carpool all the time.
Basically my uncertainty comes down to the size difference between the two racks. Is the Fat Cat like a foot larger? Or just an inch or two? Does anyone have experience with the quality of either rack or how much stuff they have actually been able to fit onto the rack? Obviously an inch isn't worth $75 and the cost for locks, so for now I am leaning towards the Thule rack now, but help is appreciated.
