Hello there,
    Anyone here go/went to mcgill or know some one that goes/went to mcgill?  I'm a junior in HS from the US but i'm kinda considering it.  I'm worried about the skiing situation up there though.   I think its pretty far from any moutains?  like 2 hrs or something?  the catch is that i was considering UVM which is pretty expensive (like 40 g's or so) and my parents said if i go to a cheaper college, such as mcgill (like 20 g's, i dont really know though but a lot cheaper) they could get me a car ("youre sooo spoiled"  not really though).  any other info would be good as well: partying, the people, whatever...

haha, McGill is nothing like that. They only ask for your basic info and grade 11 and 12 marks. I got into Arts with my grade 11 marks only and that was a 94% average and got into business with a 93% avg in grade12. The thing is with McGill is they want English, Math, then 3 any other courses to calculate your average. So classes like PE and accounting will go towards your admission. I hear that it is way harder to get into the sciences there though.

brother started going to school there, loves it but it seems to me like a lot of work and stress but at the same time a ton of fun and the city is fucking baller. ive been to visit and i am in love with everything about the city, its amazing. it's very likely that i'll go to mcgill. go to mcgiil,

im at university like 2 hours out of montreal theres actually mad places u can go im 2 hours from jaypeak but thats prlly like 4 from montreal

form montreal u will be an hour from bromont which has a decent park hour and 20 minutes to orford which is big sutton is within an hour and a half which has fun ass trees and owls head ive never been to tremblant isnt to far if you have a car u will be golden and montreal is a pretty sick city

Fuck McGill. Go to Bishop's. Shitshow times, Jay is just over an hour for decent snow, and Bromont's about 45 minutes for good park. Plus you can get nights at Montjoye which is tiny as hell but a chill time with good rails and a sick bar. I guess it depends on your roots and what you like, but if you like a tight knit community that parties hard over the whole town, check it out, cause when you go to school, you want extracurricular as well as skiing. Bishop's is also getting renovated this summer with brand new facilities for science and a new gym, plus some other shit. I'm graduating this year, and I don't even want to leave cause it's just an epic time. That's what Bishop's does to you. Best four years of my life. Check it. www.ubishops.ca

ya i guess im not even 2 hours from jay im like an hour and im actually only a bit more from montreal than an hour the bus always takes long thogh throwin off my sense of time

The only difference is that in Qc you NEED to have your helmet to go in the park. I don't really know if the parks are better in the US cause the only parks I have skied in the Us are big parks in Colorado so obviously they are going to be better than what we have but parks in Qc are starting to be very nice. Like everyone is saying, Avila has one of the sickest parks in quebec os thats your best bet.
Have fun drinking your ass off in Montreal, great place to party!!

And also, if you don't have the grades to go to McGill you could always go to Concordia its in Montreal downtown pretty near from McGill, look it up!

I go to McGill. Finishing first year in 2 weeks. Mechanical Engineering. Let me tell you, it's FUCKING AWESOME.
Super chill people, the campus is next to EVERYTHING you can possibly imagine. Drinking age is 18, bars are super chill and clubs are nothing like the US version of clubs.

As for skiing, well I ski at Bromont it's probably like 1h door to slopes from McGill if you don't catch any traffic on the bridge. Decent park but crowded. You could go north at like Avila or Tremblant, but I don't know how long it takes.

Seriously, go there. McGill rocks.

why does everyone hate on Concordia so much? I go to McGill and I like it a lot, but i cannot see it being so different from Concordia. In fact, I like some of Concordia's programs better and they seem to offer more than McGill. I have a buddy who only applied to McGill and refuses to go anywhere else. He's still waiting to hear back. He's from Quebec. If you speak french, why don't you apply to UQAM or UdeM also?

Dude come out west, best skiing in the country and possibly north america. U of Calgary has a ski club and a snowboard club that both do sick trips. Plus the mountains you can choose from are endless. Not to mention that the drinking age is the same a quebec. Also we have COP right in the city limits for some pretty good park skiing and home to the worlds biggest halfpipe, or at least tallest. Like everywhere shit costs money but rez is pretty sweet and BSD is the best party ever, which coincidentally happened yesterday.

Just got back from McGill for a tour........great party scene, one of the best I've ever seen, but if you like skiing don't go there.  Or go somewhere else, then transfer there for maybe grad school or take summer sessions there?  If you can get in there (depending on your major) you can get in so many other schools almost as good if not as good that have better skiing.....

well my crc score was 28.3, which is over average but not that high.

google cote r if you want, its the system quebec cegeps use for univeristy applications. i cant really tell you my grades because the system is based on yours compared to the class. my chem and physics classes were mostly c+'s or b's, but cal 1 killed me. besides that, mostly high 70's, which may seem low but quebec cegeps are tough.

anyways, i have friends who were rejected but they were able to get in by harassing the faculty and making your name be known. im going to see a mcgill advisor next week to try and slip right in.

if worse comes to worse, i have been admitted to concordia mechanical eng. so ill do a semester there, beast up a great GPA, then transfer to mcgill at winter. might transfer into civil there first since i heard mcgill doesnt accept mechanical applicants in winter.

Just bumping this thread to get some newer information. I've been reading up on the school and heard there are some major budget cuts and that the school is generally overrated. If someone could also shed some light on the staff, classes, class sizes, etc, that would be awesome. I am planning on applying to arts and sciences and doing a double major, probably chemistry and anthropology, so if anyone has any information on those faculties that would great.

tons of moutains and shuttle buses to mountains. ski club. party school, and party city. however, i can't say much about the student body, since i dislike mcgillionaires. there's a huge strike going on now if you're interested in getting arrested for protesting in the principals office.

If your getting a car go to Mcgill so fucking worth it. Its a fara ss drive anywhere from there so a car is going to come in handy so much. UVM is a sick school way closer to skiing but seriously don't pick a school because of skiing because chances are you won't even have that much time to go skiing with school work, whatever else you do, homework. You probaby can ski 2 or 3 days a week.
