anyone else watching the US actually beating Spain?
i hate soccer but i'm watching it anyway

but have you notice that soccer players never score like its no big deal? baseball players will hit a bomb, jog with their head down and take a seat. soccer players feel the need to strip down and run into the stands and make a scene. Soccer players are The Antibang...

if i just scored a go-ahead goal in a tournament semi-final against probably the best international team the world has seen in the last decade, i think taking off my shirt and running around like an asshole is the minimum i would do...

my teammates and coaches would have to intervene pretty quickly to keep me from whipping my junk out and slapping it on the nearest tv camera lense

thats weird that they do? but they usually freak out after a goal because one goal can decide a game pretty easily. its a low scoring type of game ya know

I watched the whole thing im a big soccer fan and player myself. Even though the US won.... Spain completely dominated. I know exactly how it feels to dominate another team and not be able to put a few in the back of the net

I definitely know what that is like
In lacrosse, our defense let up an average of like 3 goals a game, we actually calculated it. that's nothing in a lacrosse game. we fucking held out own. But the offense could only put two in! so like, we would lose 3-2 to a team because our offense just completely blew the cock while we really should have won that game like 10-2

how can you say the US will lose to Brazil after the amazing feat they just accomplished you have to have a little hope in them.  They just beat fucking Spain the number one team in the world who hadnt lost in 35 games and there last loss was in 2006. Also Spain hadnt loss to a non-european team since 1999.  So how you can say the US will lose against Brazil after seeing what they just did is a completely absurd statement, it will be a tough game but its gonna be 1-0 US.

they get so worked up about scoring because it's so rare.
it's not unusual to see a 0-0 tie.
and spain is obviously a huge soccer nation but they have had almost no success on the world stage ( with the exception of euro 08) befre that they hadn't won anything in decades.

my favorite celebration was at one of my high school's games. one of my friends scored agaisnt our rivals. After scoring, he went to the corner flag. Everyone else gathered around it. He took the ball, held his leg like a golf club, shot the ball at the corner flag. Someone lifted the flag up like you do you when you make a hole in golf. It was awesome.


soccer is low scoring. I am not big on excessive celebration. I hate a lot of the celebration that goes on in football, which is not limited to touchdowns, safetys, field goals. Its usually just play by play and people have excessive celebrations for random plays. Its annoying when it happens often. I see it in basketball too. Baseball not as much. I've always thought of baseball as a classy sport until the steroid thing.

The ways I see soccer celebrations and american football are completely different.

Soccer, mostly out of the country teams have worked so hard during a game ans it finally goes into the back of the net, players are running on pure adrenaline and emotion when they score. In American football, they plan their celebrations for weeks just to look like a douche bag. Two different situations.

do you play football at a highschool level or above? im guessing you don't because the levels of adrenaline pumping during a football game are insane. I've chased running backs down field as an offensive lineman, the only way i could have gotten him was through the addrenaline. and when i got up, i was so fucking pumped, but because im not that type of person, i didnt really celebrate. but i can tell you, when you break through a line of five, 300 lb guys who are punching you in the stomach and doing anything to stop you, and then you make a huge play that can change the game. trust me, that adrenaline rush will pump you up like a motherfucker. and i know highschool football players dont plan out anything, are you serious? look at the kid above you, he said they did this whole complicated golf celebration... they plan shit out, not football players

wowwwww chillllllllll outtttttttt mannnnn. theres so much work in soccer during a game, especially on the world cup.... its the hardest sport to score in. you can make a big play in football but it doesnt have a big effect on the game unless its in the final 2 minutes.... usually

You kinda misunderstood me. I was really talking about goals. There's so much drama when it comes to goals in soccer. And anyway, no one really celebrates for anything but goals. I didn't celebrate when I chased a striker down who had a one-on-one with the goalie and stopped the goal. But I sure as hell celebrated when I score the winning goal when the games been tied for 60 minutes.

It's just a lot harder to score in soccer (IMHO) than in any other big sport. So that's why soccer players get to celebrate :]

but you just proved yourself wrong. scoring in soccer is a big deal. you score two goals and all you have to do is maintain
in football, you have to run and tackle and be tackled and use all parts of your body just to make 1 play, which may not make that big of a difference. is when you do this 100 times, thats when you might make a difference. so i wouldnt give football that much credit. i swing my foot at the right time and i win the game. in football, i sack the quarterback, run back and get ready to try my hardest to do it again, over and over and over.

Your ignorance is astounding. Seriously, I've never played a football (a real one) in my life and I'd never say those things that you said about soccer.

Just because football requires you to hit people hard and run with big pads doesn't make it any more strenuous than soccer. Both are difficult in their own ways.

i don't see how having first hand experience make me ignorant when, on the other hand, you are the one whos only played soccer. i would love to see you go through a whole game getting the shit beaten out of you on a football field and tell me soccer is harder. i used to play soccer, its a lot of running. the only times you use upper body muscles in soccer are when you elbow someone in the face or fake getting hit and falling to the ground.

in soccer, you have to jog around, and then use a burst of speed here and there to make a play and it could be only one big play that can change the game. in football, you have to sprint and use your upper body ever single play, and making a big play can make no difference to the game.

i don't know what that means, but i play lacrosse and i have to push around many 18 year old 6'3 200lb attackman or middies. your hardly allowed to use your upper body in soccer

and compare a 200lb 18 year old for a 300lb 18 year old who actually works out his upper body all day long. thats ofootball

i beg to differ. Im pretty sure almost every kid i know, both boy and girl, played AYSO soccer before they played any other sport.

i hate it because its slow. the fact that there is like 3 goals in a game makes it less exciting. All the variations and big hits and constant excitement of football is what keep people interested.
Like i chose lacrosse over baseball because baseball is slow and boring and you dont do anything half the time. In lacrosse, im always running, im whacking someone with a metal stick or getting whacked, its high scoring, and exciting

soccer isn't slow dude. if anything you are, let's think about this. soccer is 45 minutes straight with the occasional throw in, goal kick etc. every few minutes then a half time and then the same thing over again. sprinting 50% of the time and heavy jogs the other 50%. football on the other hand is 15 minutes with 10 second plays and then 30 seconds inbetween every play. then a break then 3 more quarters after the first. please tell me which one is faster again. and if you played soccer and knew the game well you'd understand why it keeps people that know it interested.

no, checkmate/reaching the top means its over. Its the key moves that get you the checkmate, or the tricky party of the rock that you concur (or fail) which will ultimately lead to the end

no man, i dont disagree that these guys are in great shape and run a lot
but what im saying it that yes, its 90 minutes of running or jogging (which these guys are built to do), and the very occasional goal and almost goal.

Trust me, i get tired in football. every play isn'tt a jog or run, its a sprint. and on top of the sprint, its intense bench press, and a high impact collision

And lacrosse. Middies will sprint 75% of the time and run/job 25%. the have to sprint up and down the field, sprint on cuts and dodges, sprint when playing defenses, sprint for ground balls. And in lacrosse, its high scoring, big hits, even ground balls are exciting. a making the perfect dodge and stopping the perfect dodge, its all so exciting and so game changing and fast paced. Lacrosse players, i think as well as many others, are some of the best athletes in the world. They run like soccer players and hit like football players, its a mixture of so many sports.

but anyway, you concluded with with soccer being interesting backed with an argument about how much soccer players run

i dont watch nascar, i wouldn't know about crucial passing. but that is only interesting when it matters, at the end of the race really. and pit stops? when the driver takes a break to get a drink while some guys change his tires a shit? the only exciting part is watching those guys and how quick they are

I think its hard to watch lacrosse without knowing whats going on, but watch this and tell me this wasnt so exciting? i was fucking jumping up and down when i saw this, plus i won 10 bucks.

Was happy USA beat Spain, ended their 30 something game winning streak.  The US actually plays amazing games.  Last cup they drew with Italy, who won the cup.  No one noticed though.

wow.....why would the whole entire world (aside from the US) be absolutely in love with soccer if it was boring? i'd say a lot of americans are just really ignorant about it. it's not boring at all. there's a lot going on, and since it's low scoring than it means that each goal is just that much more crucial and exciting. admire the differences between sports instead of assuming that one sport is better than another because you participate in it and don't know anything about the other one. just because one sport excites you doesn't mean it excites everybody else, and just because you think a sport you don't have much experience in is boring doesn't mean everyone will agree with you.
