Looking for a mp3 with good sound quality, non ipod

i have the iaudio i7 but it seems to have died just yesterday. looking to replace it fairly quickly with something new. don't want an ipod (why not?) I just don't.

so let me know what else is out there and why, thanks guys

i think there've been threads like this before, but ill pitch in what i have: Creative zen And a creative zen mosaic, both really durable designs, the zen has been washed with the laundry, and still works
+they can take impacts very well, actually dropped the mosaic while biking and it went under my wheels, its still good
+the mosaic has a little speaker, sound is bad but its fun to have..
+both are very compact and easy to use
+mosaic has super good battery life....


If i ever need a new mp3 im definately going for a creative again!

Ill co-sign on the zen as well, I have had two and neither of them has broken yet. Zune aint really a bad choice either.

If im not mistaken, the MP3 player has nothing to do with te sound quality. Only the audio file and the headphones/speakers your using. Anyways, just dont get an iPod, they suck.

mp3 as it is, is lousy quality sound. Spending ridiculous amounts on speakers/audio equipment to play mp3s is silly.

im sure you already know this and probably dont want to hear it but.... the ipod is the best damn mp3 player around, especially if you want more than 8gb.

i had a zen till the sreen got cut in half by the egde of my ski amidst a crash, but i loved it till then!

OP:  You already eliminated iPods when you asked for an MP3 with good sound quality.  And to the guy I quoted, the player definetely matters.  iPods have annoying background noise that is actually pretty loud, and it doesn't matter what headphones you use, its still there.

BTW I have owned 3 iPods over the past  two years, so I'm not just bashing them without knowing what I'm talking about.

Oh yeah and my recommendation is a Zen, they have good sound quality and are absolute tanks.  I couldn't break mine if I tried.  As mentioned above, though, the only way to get real good quality is to rip your songs in lossless, which gives you huge files and fills up the MP3 quickly.

The zen,it has a nice usuable interface,and its pretty easy to use and its fairly cheap.the only probalem i have is that i cant figure out howto get movies towork on mine,but if you only want music than the zen isthe smallest,cheapest,and best choice for a great mp3 player that has a screen and has amazing pcture detail.

creative zen. they are making them with x-fi now as well, so if you want to jump for that you should, it's a creative technology that makes most audio, especially mp3s, sound quite a bit better. of course, if you're going to be going for a quality player, make sure your mp3s are good quality as well, most of mine are at least 320kbps, anything lower sounds really shitty no matter what player you have. also, make sure you pair it with a good set of headphones, otherwise the money you spend on a good soundcard will be a waste.
hope that helps. all-around, creative makes the best soundcards on the market, so it's no wonder their mp3 players also have great soundcards.

get a zune they come with amazing sounding buds and the zune itself has great quality.. the only down side to my 80g is the shitty battery life

I don't know about the new zunes, but i have the old 30 gb and it's still kicking.
after about 2.5 years, the battery will still hold a charge for about 6 hours of music or 2 of video.
Also, it has been dropped many times and there is barely a scratch

Microsoft has the Zune HD coming out soon, it seems to be their reaction to the ipod touch and sonys new offering.

I like sony, sound quality is excellent on every player I've had from them, and the batteries seem to last longer than nearly any other make... And they tend to be easy to transfer data to and from and are quite simple to operate even with 1 hand
