What does a rockered park ski do to the performance?

ive noticed a bunch of people are wanting to convert over to a rockered park ski instead of the traditional rocker on the skis. why is that? is there some addition that makes the ski better? or is it just for looks?

also ive noticed switch hits are alil easier cause yer tips wont grab as easily

Good skiers make the choice based on preference(different butter feel, lots of things to account for)
other skiers buy rockered park skis(or do it themselves) because they like to follow trends
other skiers prefer them because that skier can not ski a longer park ski the way it is made to be skied, and rockering a ski will make the eff. edge shorter, making it ski like a shorter ski, and these people should simply be on shorter skis, because they are not taking advantage of the rockered part.

A few things to think about with rockered park skis:

When rocker is added to a ski, it shortens the contact length that is on the snow. This means that there is less effective edge, and the ski won't stop as quickly. This shortened area will also change how the ski pops, because there is less to push on from a flat platform, and even if the ski has camber underfoot, it most likely will not pop as well as a traditionally cambered ski.

Butters are easier, because the tips are curved in the direction that is helpful and you don't have to fight them. Also, the higher tips mean a decreased risk of getting caught up in sticky slush, which is nice as well.

I'm still a traditional camber park ski guy, but I guess I understand why people have moved to rockered. A lot of it is just trend though.

i tryed the reno rockers and they are differnt. its alot more playful and stuff like that. its really fun

I absolutely love my Hellbents, and love the way they do everything, so i want a pair of rockered park skis because i feel like i can ollie/nollie higher on them, and they are super fun to ski.  Also they would make a more versatile ski, as they will ski pow fairly well

ive seen it on other threads i think you put somthing between them close to the tip and tail then find a way to push in the middle for a long time

Ive been using bents as my primary park ski the past season, and have skiing a pair of old decambered STLs for a long time before that as a play ski.

Id say the biggest difference between a cambered (traditional) ski and a rockered one, is the level of forgivingness, or room for play. on groomers, they are very nimble, and its much less likely to catch an edge or get hung up, yet when you do get them on edge they will still make great carves, in fact, since your not fighting the camber, they really dive effortlessly into a turn.

The downside to this, is that they are inheritably squirrely at high speeds and on ice. On jumps, they love to carve out big floating spins and are awesome switch, but they force you to stay over your center, cause theres much less to land on. On good snow, a rockered ski will feel pretty similar to a normal one,but they feel way different in the extremes, pow is a million times better, while bad snow becomes a real pain in the ass.

If your established, and think it could further your riding, go for it. but if your still workin on fundimental stuff, id reccomend gettin that down first.
