well, just for your info spk's have a "last" size(last meaning the the part of your foot where your toes meet the mass of your foot/ kinda like where your knuckles are on your hand) of 106mm and thats the same size as most rental boots. its the widest ive seen straight out of the box.
they have a huge toe box also, it seems to me that salomon tried like hell to make a boot that fits everyones foot, the end result being if you dont have a huge, wide foot. and thick toes, then after you pack your liners out your in for some trouble. and im sure im gona catch shit from people on NS for talkin smack about their precious spk's, but in my opinion they are junk, they are the only boot ive even heard of people spraining their ankles because they are too wide once broken in/ it happened to my friend asteezy also/ unless,.... you have the forementioned foot size of course! i know at least 10 people who have had majors pains after they packed the liners out, and will never buy spk's again after owning/learning more about them and i think that kids love them just cause they look like jibbers on the mtn w/ them on.
i kno you said you live in the midwest and im sorry for you,but if at all possible you should really try to go to a bootfitter, who will tell you what companies of boots you should be looking into, im sure salomon has a boot that will fit better than spk's.and if not then try on as many boots as your shop has, and find out the last size of each of them, and which fits you best if the tech doesnt know make them call a rep. or you call the company yourself.once you know what companies fit best, find out the park equevilent of the boot you tried on and buy them online, DONT waste money on boots just cause everyone else has them, you can potentially be robbing yourself out of progressing and better days of skiing.
i know this becasue ive made this mistake twice already in the past, i spent 500+ on mojos/ packed out the liners and they hurt like hell, then i bought $700 lange FR100s a little better, but same issues: packed out the liners: on came the pain.all this because i wanted a "park" boot. but lucky for me i went to a fitter in winter park CO while havin issues w/ my lange's and he gave me great fit advice about my foot/ankle/calf even though he knew i wasnt buying boots from him at all. and i figured out that dalbello krypton shells fit me the best/ meaning i can use kryptons/rampages,even full tilts,etc,...so i bought il moros only cause i had the cash, and i wanted intuition liners, but any krypton wouldve done. ive had them for 2 seasons now and god i cant tell you how much better i can ski with a boot that is fit for my foot.
just some evidence of proof: if you watch jacob websters part in claim you will see hes wearing 4yrs old red salomon x wave boots, and i bet its cause he found what fits and hes sticking w/ it im sure he could of had spk's but why
sorry bout the rant i just hate to see fellow skiers waste money when all they needed was good info
