The beginning of the season

Anyone else find the beginning of the ski season to be some of the best times?

You've been somewhat deprived of snow for upwards 6 months, unless you went to hood/whistler... and snow comes down and you're just stoked to the maximum level, even with the worst of any conditions available... It's awesome...

Last year, a bunch of us went up and shredded the first 6 days that boreal was open... with just a patch of cruddy, rocky, dirty snow, and some jib features, we had the time of our effin lives man..

Tell some stories about your first day on the hill last year...

r mtn opened 3 weeks before schedule and i was in heaven     they had some big piles of snow from snow makers like 15ft and we made that a dropin and made a little jump   it was so fun and the snow was good

I cant remeber any first day of season stories, but the begining of the season is always my favorite cause i learn the most then.

Opening day in the Northwest was really late as Baker didn't open until Dec 14th.  It was a pretty sick day with sunshine, friends,  not the best coverage but there was some blower pow stashes that made waiting six months worth it. Then Dec 18 Stevens Pass opened with the same not so great coverage but a couple feet of perfect light snow in spots. This was also my first day ever on rockered skis and I was completely blown away how easy skiing powder was. Can't wait for the begining of the Season.

I find that I learn a whole bunch of new rail stuff.  Perhaps because thats all there is open and all the need to be on snow.  But then I always slow down and plateau off.

Ya the start is always epic. We dont usually have any sort of a park set up for opening but its still so fun.

Ya begin of season is so dope..cuz uve been waiting for so long..we have our open house at my usually about a month before opening day which is really fun, ski swap meet, jib jam, and I start gettin that look in my eyes then. Its great.

Aside from T-line in September, my roommate and I went to Mission Ridge for opening day and skied the ribbon of manmade that went from the top to the bottom with Will. Way fun.

haha hav to agree, 1st day last season went to mt snow for opening day, prolly one of the coldest days of the year but everyone was stoked to be there and it was just mad fun sessioning there new features

1st day last year I had to ride rentals cause my skis were elsewhere (long story)  but it was awesome!
One little run with rental skis and I was still stoked to be on snow finally

our mtn kept missing their opening dates and finally the day it opens(december 8) we get up there super late around 2:00 its just me and two friends no one in sight... they have the two lower lifts running because the summit was -60 degress with a wind chill....there were random rocks everywhere and i decided to ride my bents for the first time and was just getting worked after every run we had to go inside for a second to warm up because our fingers/toes would go numb overall it was a super fun way to start out the season

my first day this season wasn't all that amazing,
but my first like week or two (total) was awesome because everyday i went up i learned a new trick. like 5, then switch 5, the 7, and so on... which got me super stoked for everything.

Our hill opened up a mini park on the bunny hill early. We just seshed that for two days. It was fun :)

well i teach ski school so we have clinics wether lifts run or not and we set up pvc setups that are always incredibly fun. then i got the very first chair of the season at my hill (snoqualmie central) and right as i took my first turn into the the bottomless pow the sun came out. my friends and i then proceeded to hike up the ridge of the lift that wasn't working and get first tracks on all of those runs. most epic day ever.

Beginning of the ski season is the best, because the anticipation is eating you alive... which makes that first set of turns all the better. Everyone's watching the forecasts compulsively, checking snow reports, waiting for that last foot needed for their home resort to open to fall. Meanwhile, you've got movie premieres, ski swaps, trade shows and events up on the hill. The weather's gets colder and everyone gets their skis/gear waxed, tuned and ready to go so that they can leave at a moment's notice. That pretty much sums it up.

Early season this past year at Schweitzer was interesting because the pow was so light, you basically took a run and sunk down three feet to the ground. Plus avalanche danger was so high that all the chutes were closed. Meanwhile there wasn't really a park until the beginning/middle of January because the light, dry snow was so bad for park construction. Yet still, everyone was out there having a great time on the hill. It would have been a great early season if there was a good base. It was still very good though -- there were some great powder stashes to be had.

^After writing this I wish it was fall.

I had my first days of the season last week.. Nothing but two ten foot flatboxes, in a wind and rainstorm and I had the best time ever. Early season just gets stoke no matter what.

I love it, I'm at my house checking the snow reports for like a month until it's finally the day. It is most likely freezing, windy and almost no cover but it is still amazing. Just the sound of clicking in over the pile of manmade snow is amazing.

mt snow had a tiny lil jib park set up on the bunny hill weeks before the mt "officially" opened, then we had a top to bottom park opening day not to shabby.

unfortunatly i get to miss the beginning of this coming season :(

My first day, besides whistler opening day last year, was a powder day. Same with last year. haha I love the west coast

yeah at the beginning of the season the mini park was setup soo nicely! I always had a blast every weekend waiting for the big park to open. We also had a pretty fun pow day at like the end of december? i think which was pretty early into our season. check the video!

Ahhhhhh, i could rant for hours about the magic of the first month or two of the season. The stoke is sooo much higher, your trying new stuff, you don't have the option of skiing everyday (my hills early season schedule is like Tuesday nights, and then the weekend) and the holidays are rapidly approaching (this somehow makes it extra magical for me i dont know why)

Normally my hills opening day is on a saturday but last season we found out on a tuesday night that they would be open wednesday and thursday night for hiking a few rails. I was ecstatic!! Wednesday i had to work 9-5, and the hill opened at 4 so i rushed right from work to ski. Then those nights were so much fun

also i love how up until the holidays the season is still JUST starting, so everyday you go you know you still have the whole season to ride....its awesome....i cant wait for next year

the advantage of WI is it gets cold pretty quick which means man made snow earlier

i think our first day was October 28th, but then we got almost no snow from January-March and our season ended early...it was still a great season though

the first day my local hill was open all there was, was two trails and a box set up at the bottom and i think i hiked that 1 box for 10 hours that day and it was the most fun ive ever had
