Good college majors for skiers

yo iv been doing a little thinking about what im going to major in college.
i picked environmental engineering and got all my classes lined up at utah state
BUT im not 100%
i wanted see what the general population on NS was studying or have studied
watcha got?

As for you dingo, i would be a film major but you don't make 50k out of college as a film major, like business majors.

wind mill shit
water purification plants
that kind of stuff

and at most school its grouped with civil so you can basicly do both and in your last year if you change you mind you can switch over and still graduate on time

i wanted to do environmental science but i could find a school that had a good program that i like.
montana state did but they were pretty pricey so i choses utah state and env engineering

I'll put it this way, for the first two or three years of your college carrer engineering is just a bunch of number crunching, calcualtions, and in your case the most beloved Organic Chemistry.  I sugest that you join an engineering club (eventhough is seems super geeky) so you don't loose site of the true meaning of this major.

4 classes is normal for college. environmenal engineering is a great thing to be in. by the time you graduate there will be so many options for you.  take your education first, skiing second.  you'll still get tons of days of skiing in either way.

personally i'm a natural resource management major.

yeah. school > skiing. its got to be that way....

to whomever you were quoting, 4 classes is normal, but ide take more than 12 credits if i were you. especially if its just your first year.... i know i would have been bored shitless with 12 credits...

im taking 13 credits acutally.
and i doubt ill be bored.
ive got a killer 5 credit chem with lab
4 credit calce
3 credit engineering class with lab
and 1 credit engineering class

i hope im bored though ill be in utah so ill have plenty of stuf to do!
pc on the weekends and im walking distance away from the wasatch mountain range and the national forrest for my midweek enjoyment if i find the free time!

Oh dude, that's fucking badass.  That is right up there with being a pharmacist.  I am seriously going to consider that now.  Like I said, where I live, there is tons of shit like damns and hydro electricity.  I would be super successful in this area.  Fuck yeah, that's better than being a pharmacist.

plus utah state is cheap as fuck even for me an out of state resident and it is a top engeneering school especially for aroespace and env!

dude. do not go into building dams. they are extremely destructive to the environment.  it is in no way badass. it's so bad that governments all over the world are starting to tear them down (except for china of course, who are just finishing up building the largest dam in the world). there's way better things to get into.

I really don't think it's wise to base your major in college on skiing if you aren't directly prepared to enslave your monetary income for the rest of your life to it.

As for me I am an economics major with a minor in poli sci. My ultimate goal is to screw off for a year then do grad school. Not sure if I am going to do PHD research stuff or masters. Ultimately I want to work globally on matters of some significance and hopefully give something back to the world? Maybe a few bones in my wallet would be nice.

i go to USU also. i got my schedule set so up so i only have class tuesdays and thursdays. so skiing at beaver (20 min away) on monday on wednesday. then i drive home to slc on thursday night so i can hit up pc alta or snowbird on the weekends. sooo stoked!

I remember when I thought like you. Then I took physics and said fuck this. Engineering takes alot of hard work and time. Its worth it, but I could not go through with it. I got into the engineering school at UVM, now I am majoring in Recreation Management. Only 6 kids coming in next year as freshmen in the major (including me).

Figure out what you like, and do that.  Good ski companies need people to do everything from business and accounting to design and sales.

Business, Marketing, Engineering, Computer Science, lots of good ones.  It's totally cliche, but if you do what you like and you're good at it, you'll find a role in the industry.

I wouldnt really reccomend enviro engineering. A lot of them usually end up cleaning water, poop water, for the rest of their lives. Also they can often have brutally lame office jobs. I almost went into it but made the last second switch out to mining. Not for the mining aspect in particular but the reclamation.

And dont do business unless you have a solid plan on what you want to do with it after. I know several people that were all nuts about going into business and now dont know what to do.

Take time off before you go to university.

business is fine as long as you have an idea after. but all in all it doesnt really matter what you major is if you at least have a direction to go in after college. you will all learn once you graduate and see where all your friends go.
