Need help with car stuff(audio)

so i scored 2 12inch, 1200W subs for free off my cousin, (boxed in)...

i just have some questions if someone wouldnt mind helpin a brotha out who is lost...

1. do i NEED a 1200w amp to support them? or could i run something like a 1000w?

2. can i run it off the stock deck in the car? or do i need an aftermarket...

don't trust me, i don't know much but. one of my friends has subs with no amp. i'm sure a 1000w should be fine.

also TWA he knows a thing or 2 :)

as far as the deck, i'd go with after market, you can find some for like 70 bucks

My pioneer has a subwoofer off function for the dedicated out. 1200w may be the max so find out what the RMS is and get an amp capable of running them. You'll need someone who knows how to wire them.

i would suggest buying a deck but your stock one will do if you get an adapter that hooks up to your speaker wires and has rca outputs. i do this and just turn the bass all the way down on my stick decka dn turn the amp power up so the subs hit, and a 1000 watt amp is fine. i slapped 2 15's  on a thousand what amp and they were pretty nice but i dont no what watt. hope that helped

yo man find out the rms of each speaker so youll know how much wattage to run to each.Peak wattage doesn matter.
Find a mono or 2 channel amp that has enough watts rms to run to each sub. A head unit will help with the subwoofer output.

they are pyramid imperial 12', with a RMS of 600W.

i am going to look into a deck, and if i cant get a decent one with an on/off function i will just put in a toggle its basic to put one on anything.

thanks for the help guys keep it comming.

and also....do i need to hook everything up at once...or is it jsut easier to instead of doing speakers...deck...sub...amp...etc.

My opinion is its easier to do it all at once, you usually have to take the dash apart to set up the subs and deck, so while you have the car already in pieces, just keep going. but you can really do it whatever way you want to

ya dude you can run it off of a 1000 watt amp and it should be okay
you just need a new headunit already has av inputs in the back
(they look like the things on a tv)
and ya just get good wireing and ya should be fine

You don't need a toggle switch?

I have a alpine head and I can adjust the sub from 0-15 (zero being off and 15 being full) its really nice when you want a little bit of bump for songs at like 6-10 range or go ghetto at 15.

Most heads you can adjust the sub output level or at least the ones I've seen.

k so only big box stores were open today...and basically...im even more confused now...

so i got speakers and heads figured out...now its just the amps...

this cracka at best buy was sayin that the sony 2-Channel 800W amp would be fine ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8679726&type=product&id=1197678618474 ) but when i looked into it, the information i got says the amp only has 340W RMS bridged(wtf does bridged mean?)

and when this amp is 179.99 and i say other amps for 599.99, i get a lil worried. lol

on tuesday i have a half day at work so hopefully i can go to some shops that arent a big box store.

can anyone try and clarify this madness?

what kind of speakers are they?  As the power rating really does not mean anything.  a set of 1200w Pyle drivers are total shit compared to a more expensive set with a lower power rating.

no. but at the very least run your rca's and remote wire (blue wire) for amp to your trunk, that way you dont need to take apart your dash again. but id just do it all at once. go get an amp 800 should be good and keep your price down. get speakers and if possible get inclosures for your car if they are available as an aftermarket, if not if i were you i would do some sound deadening and make a custom inclosure (but dont bother with that cause its not a job for beginners)the inclosures really help with the speakers sound quality. dont get suckered in by all the "oxygen free" and "gold platted" bull shit, its really basically a way to get more money and its not worth it for a basic set up. go with a cheap power cable, 8gauge will do, and always keep your ground wire (the one that goes to your body) as short as possible, no more then three feet and it wouldn't hurt to step it up a gauge. and scrape the paint off so you can bolt or screw into bare metal. as for running to power wire there will be holes in your firewall with rubber gromets in them, run your wire though there and run it don the side of your car, there should be a plastic "tray" that you un screw and run it in there past your door and the rest tuck it away. and run your power on one side and RCA's on the other.  im bored sorry for the long right up you probably wont follow anway. if you do want more info pm me and il help you out
