Macbook vs. Macbook pro

So going to college. My family loves macs. But we dont know if we want to get a macbook pro for me or not. One of the more major questions was, how does a regular macbook run with final cut? Has anyone run it with that and had it run slow. Also how does it run with the boot program and windows xp?

Get the 13" Aluminum MacBook Pro. For $200 more you get solid unibody construction, an illuminated keyboard, SD card slot, a better processor and more hard drive space. Do it.

not to sound like a another fag in nsg but get the mbp if your parents are considering it. tell them the programs do not work properly and the screen size is too small for your workspace.

Obviously you get a macbook pro if you're a pro and a regular macbook if you're friends with a pro.

i don't even think the 13'' pro is any different from the "old" 13" macbook. They only have the polycarbonate one, not the aluminum macbook which i have. I think they just changed the name, but i could be and probably am wrong. I looked at the facts and stuff and they are all the same as my macbook.

fuck when i read this i thought finnally they made a 13 inch macbook pro but like the guy above said it really isnt a macbook "pro"

the whole point of getting a pro is so you get the independent graphics card and can run things like final cut pro properly

Minimum Requirements to Install All Final Cut Studio Applications
  • A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo or Intel Xeon processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
  • A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
  • Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
  • QuickTime 7.1.6 or later
  • A DVD drive for installation
now i know you can probably run it on a normal macbook or whatever but i wouldnt recommend it, iv have not tried myself but that would be my opinion

Doesn't sound good to me, because, let me guess, when your battery goes to shit they want you to send it in to Apple Certified Ripoff Repair and pay $8952798047180947908175804312750891.99 to have a new one "professionally installed."

i have a macbook pro, the new line, with 4gb ram and it is really the best thing i have ever owned.

the alluminum macbooks dont look that much worse, but i reccomend the PRO, i got the 15.4 inch and it is pertty thin and light (like 5 ppl asked me if it was the air), and very powerful, i can run whatever and have a ton of programs open all the time.

Macbook Pro FTW

just make sure u get as much ram as u can

Nomen if you haven't seen this, its a greta explanation as to why the battery cannot be removed. http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/ You'll have to click Watch the battery Video in the right hand bottom corner. I guess it comes down to a 7 hour battery versus 2 removable 5 hours.

its "up to 7" meaning if you actually use your computer, its going to be around 4-5 hours. its just another marketing gimmick from the marketing pros at apple. what happens after the 1000 charges? do you get a whole new computer? how do you upgrade ram or your hd if the computer is one piece?

well i have 91 cycles on mine. From what i have noticed a cycle is the time you take your computer from the plug and then let the battery go towards the end of its power then start charging again. cycles wont go up very much if you leave it plugged in alot. honestly i love my mbp and woulda been pissed with a 13 inch computer. mbp runs fcp well especially with 4gb ram. ram is key. go mbp

Apple defines a cycle as lettng the battery drain completely then charging it completely, but what about when its lets say half power and you charge it? do those ever count as cycles? or is the only time a cycle is counted when it competely drains? Does it makes sense to always let it run out?

so what exactly happens when you hit your 1000 cycles. does your mac spontaneously combust? I know 1000 cycles is more just an estimation, just like they say a 7 hour battery life on a full charge. So, when your battery does hit that magic number where its no good, is it just as simple as purchasing a new battery and having it installed?

After you hit 1000, the health of your battery will start to decrease. Meaning you won't get 7 hours of battery life. And I'm sure they could just replace it.

In reference to your question about the graphics card yeah the 9400m is just an integrated card, you only get an external card once you get to the 15" 2.66Ghz model. Having a independant graphics card will make a huge difference, Im not 100% certain but im pretty sure the ones with independant graphics cards use the integrated one for when the computer isnt having to do much then use the independant card on stuff like Final Cut where your gonna need the extra power.

I have a white macbook from a few revisons ago and you can tell that its an integrated card and dusnt have the ability to compete with a proper card. The 9400m is a good integrated card and is much better than the intel ones but its still not the same as having a proper graphics card.

In my opinion I wouldn't class the models below the 15" 2.66 as a "pro" model. Its Apple just trying to market their products differently and market the white plastic ones as a cheaper alternative.

also I dont know how easy it is on the new aluminum ones but Apple charge you out of the ass for upgrades. Your better off buying the cheaper model and installing extra ram and hdd space yourself and save your self a lot of $$$.

Yeah, buy the base mode of what you want and upgrade it through someone else. It's easy to do yourself, even on the new pros.
