heads up to anyone running subs and other sources of strain on the alternator. yesterday driving home form work had the tunes thumping and ac pumping and check gauges light comes on on the dash of my trusty 93 dodge grand caravan. i notice my battery is dropping, so naturally i turn off the subs and ac, still dropping, and i hear the dreaded alt squeal. FML. so i get it home and park. i do a little research and find out the alt form a 3.3 (my engine) anb a 3.0 will work. so i head to a auto wrecker to pick one up. the only one is from a 3.0, no problem, it comes right out. cost 0$ i get home to pull mine out thinking it will be in in no time. i though wrong. what a hassel. unreal amounts of work. so much shit has to come off just to get the alt out. no fun at all. it will be like this on all 3.3 from this generation. i say do not attempt this at home, just fork out the money. il still go on with doing it on my own tho just because im cheap as fuck, and i love my van and have done lots to it myself like brakes and fixing heater and lower rad hose fuel filter, rear heater, serpentine belt and tensioner pulley and other things like a complete new stero, and the addition of a bed when i flip down the back seat. many memories with that van. 340k on it, many ski trips out to BC and back and hopefully many more. the only reason im saying this is its late and im tired and greasy and dont want to go to bed.
