No market for skis over 175?

Alright so I know a bunch of you guys on newschoolers are disappointed with LINE this year having skis like no bigger than 178 and especially no bigger than 177 for the afterbang. Last night I bought 177 afterbang from sierra skis. On the site it says they still have 4+ 177 in stock. 166 is out of stock. And 155 there is only 1 left.  I get the feeling that there isn't much market for long skis these days. It might just be they bought a ton of 177s but that would not make too much sense. Most local stores buy like 3 of each size or something. I know there is a market for longer skis on here.... So what do you think newschoolers?

To put it succintly, that is absolute horse shit. I currently ski on a 182 and find it just the right size, any smaller and I'd prolly feel a bit unstable. LINE just needs to get their head out of their asses. 178 is a start, but maybe a 184 or even 185 would bring a whole other type of customer. I think a lot of kids are afraid of long skis for the simple fact they never learned to ski properly. I hope LINE reads this and gets longer sizes.

If there was no market for skis over 175 no companies would be making them, it must just be a line thing they think they know what their customers want, but they obviously haven't researched it that hard. If they looked on here it seems that pretty much everyone is on skis longer than 175.
And deducting that there is no market just from what sierra skis is doing is a bit of a stretch, the smaller sizes probably sold out quickest because all the little kids wanted them now and mommy and daddy paid for them whereas those wanting longer skis are probably more likely to wait until closer to the season to get them.

I completely agree. My first tin tips were 1260's in a 153, then PE is a 164, Invader in 171, Currently Chronics 181 and Lizzies for all mountain. I love my chronics, and for a park ski, I would never go shorter. I have not used the Lizzies yet but I bet they will be fun. Line should be making a twin tip in the mid 180's. I love Line and that is whay i always buy line, but if they are not going to make longer skis, I gonna have to look at other brands.

volkl produces a 185 wall and it is the fastest to sell out out of all the sizes. the reason there may be more 177 abangs left is because figure most of us that are 6ft and over are stronger people, we want a stiffer ski, which, other then the chronic, line doesnt really make. so we turn to brands like armada/volkl/head/ect. if enough of us tell the line reps and email line saying we need a longer ski, im sure they will make it happen

Hey thanks for all these great answers guys. This is exactly what I was looking for. I was pretty sure there is a market for 180's skis on newschoolers.  Line should probably take this into consideration.

Line also sold massive amounts of 181 chronics in the past and they did stack up(because no company should have sold that many of any model).  Early this season it was not hard to get new 08 chronics for 200 because there were so many.  Yes, many kids are afraid of long skis, but better skiers tend to not be(even if they prefer short).  Just for refrence on some ski lengths(K2 measures long, so there 180 or whatever is more like 185, so does Armada on park skis), I just measured my "188" Coombas out to almost 194 along the base, and my 181 Pipe Cleaners to a few mm under 185 along the base.

Does a park ski over 190 even exist? The only one I can think of was the Ostness Dragon but that was almost 10 years ago.

armada jj's sold out in 185 instantly but the smaller ones stuck around

my shortest skis are 176 and i'm 5'11, long skis are where it's at

I literally JUST got some 183s today. Had the choice between 178 and 183 and went with the 183.  My AR6's are 176, my ARV's are 185, and now my SFS's are 183. Before that I had some 176 AND 180 AR5's and LOVED that them at the 180 size. I'm  6 feet and about 190lbs, not a giant, and the 176's feel a bit too small anytime I'm not in the park.
I thought the 185s would feel BIG, but since they are mounted at nearly the same spot, its only about 4.5 cm (like 2 inches) longer in the tip and tail compared to the 176's. I think the 183's will feel great mounted at about +3.

to original poster, thats cuz you ski midwest like myself and nobody needs a long charge hard ski and 4 out of 5 skiers are under the age 15 and just use skiing to hang out at the hill to screw around with their friends so we just aren't exposed to how many people have 175 + skis i think

No, Line just knows that anyone who wants a fast, long, and stable ski isn't going to look to them for a jump ski.  Therefore, short, soft, and slow park skis that are made to get destroyed on rails.  Just my opinion.

It's sad AND true. LINE makes some slow ass bases. I don't know what it is, they just don't move whatsoever.

there needs to be a few 186cm park skis for bigger people

some of the only skis that are longer are also fatter so this year instead of skiing a 85-90mm underfoot ski in the park i'm skiing a 100mm ski. I think that line should make a 181-185 afterbang/anthem for people over 6 feet tall to use in the park.

Most companies have a ski over 77, 76, 77, 78, 79, and 80... Maybe Line is sticking to their roots. Remember when they made those really super short skis?

177 isn't THAT short, but for a soft ass ski like the invader or afterbang that you gotta centermount its not an option for me (6'3 180) unless I want to pack them on my back and put them on when I get down to the bottom half of the mountain. Otherwise I probly wouldve picked up a pair. I can't ride the same skis as a 12 year old kid.
