What is a "legit" helmet?

I'm looking for a helmet for next season. Most helmets i find are pretty gaper. Cant seem to find a legit helmet anywhere. Any help pleaseeee?

I'm a fan of Smith helmets. Both the Holt and Variant Brim are really nice. I've heard good things about the Giro Shiv too.

But seriously, TRY ON HELMETS BEFORE YOU BUY THEM.  You don't wanna be stuck wearing a helmet that may look good but doesn't fit right, because, god forbid, something happens to you?  It won't do what it's supposed to. 

Go into your local shop, try on helmets, get a feel for what's good.  Only then buy a helmet from either that shop or online.

Definitely check out K2 helmets, most of them are pretty dumb looking but I just bought the K2 Rant without trying it on and it fits great.  The only reason I did this was because K2 helmets are shaped differently than other helmets so they fit the widest range of head shapes.  The helmet also comes with thicker pads for customizing the fit even more.  The thing is light as hell too.  It's definitely best to try on helmets first (I love the Smith Holt, but it doesn't fit my head), but if you don't have that option, which is usually the case this late in the season, then the K2 is probably your best bet.  It's dope too.

yes poc is awesome.  they're also the safest.

although, they're really expensive.  i have a smith holt, and also love it.  + i got it back in march for $50 off bc.com.  my smith holt is perfect, just rip out some of the padding and a hat fits perfect underneath.  i've also heard really good things about the k2 rant, and the bern baker.

I have a Giro shiv and a G10mx, and I love both of them. Both are legit helmets.

The shiv doesn't go down as far on the back of the head as I thought it would though, but it's comfy and has the removable padding with no velcro inside, so if you're rocking a toque then there's no velcro to get caught on the toque. Plus the goggle clip on the back is magnetic and removable, so if you're wearing your gogs under the helmet you can get a cleaner look without the clip thing. Super light too.

The G10mx is kinda big and bulky, lots of vents, but it still looks rad I think, and it fits real nice too. Just as light as the shiv. It's more of a freeride look though I think than a park rat look I think if that concerns you at all.

I have the RED hifi and really like it. its much lighter than other helmets Ive had, and the clasp on the chin is such a great idea. I have had a Giro Encore2, Bern Macon and Smith Holt and the hifi beats them all for a comfortable fit for me. I think the encore2 was the heaviest of the lot.

i have a red trace helmet. pretty good for the price took some good whiplash and diggers straigt to the head and didnt get headaches the helmet holds up really good isnt very expensive and looks good.

i might have posted before, but i forgot about NS for long ass time. 
just got this helmet from Tramdock.  it's a POC XP.  has sweet visor, fits perfect.  not very much venting though.
