AMEX giftcard to paypal?

so my mom wont let me use her paypal, so im going to make my own. When I created my account, it said I need to put in a credit card, and I dont have one. Is it possible to put in a amex giftcard?
Please help me.

I believe so, I know I didn't open it with a gift card, but I did add one to paypal and it worked out for me.
