Backyard sesh

A few friends of mine and I will be having a backyard session with a rail and some boxes.  We plan to get a ton of snow from the local ice rink. About how long will this last is 70-80' weather?

i live in knoxville. I did this yesterday in the 85 degree sun and it lasted us about an hour and ahalf

Just have it at night and keep the extra snow in a pile. Should last for hours

we have a 1 ton dump truck so we are literally getting a a ton

what would be the best way to build the lip? i was thinking if i made a snow lip it would just get destroyed. Maybe make a wood lip and put snow on top of it?

Won't work!  Every time you hit it, the wood underneath will flex and the snow will slide off.  Build the lip out of snow and spray it with salt water.  It should ice up and should hold up as long as your snow does or longer.

does the soap do anything to your skis? i just did turf and water and it worked fine.

It makes it faster. Quite a bit actually.
And no, it doesn't do any damage to your skis.

depending on what type of soap it can dry out your bases, just like it dries out skin.

to OP, If you have turf to lay over a wooden ramp, i would really suggest using a wooden ramp. just lay your turf down on the wood lip and lay your snow over that, that way you won't waste snow using it for the base of the lip, and when the snow starts to melt, it leaves a film of slush on the turf that makes the turf slide a lot faster than it usually slides. this has seemed to work well in the past for me.

Dry laundry soap always has worked well for me.
I don't think that will dry up your bases....hopefully.
What kind does?

liquid dishwasher soap... i used it and it sort of wrecked my turf for a while, leaving a sticky coating that wasn't real slippery, and dried out my bases, which started looking like really flaky skin and having plastic dandruff haha. but ive never tried dry laundry soap.

It doesn't add all that much. And it's not worth ruining skis.

a literal ton would prolly last you a few days if you can get a tarp over it and its in the shade... good luck man sounds sick

i went to the rink today to see when they would dump next but they dont put out that much very often :(
they dump snow around 5 times per day and dump a 4ft by 4ft by 4th pile everytime

Had a sesh last weekend with snow starting around 6 at night. It was probably 70 out. I would say we got a lot of snow, after we setup we had somewhat of a pile left to keep adding snow. You should be good for 2-3 hours. Just put turf on the ground and snow on top, it will last longer. Plus, it's easier to deal with when the snow melts, and you can keep skiing.

I'd build the jump out of dirt, and put carpet or turf on that.  You can put the real snow on top of the turf like someone else said.  Look for "Bio Degreaser".  Check local hardware stores.  I had quite a bit on my skis and is didn't f them up.  It's designed for that.  Cleans gross bike chains without killing grass or plants that it gets on.

My friends and i had a sesh with only one load from a zamboni, which is about a full bed of a Tacoma filled with snow, and we seshed it for like three ours, then dumped the rest on the ground. The next morning at 11am there was still a little patch on the inrun!!!

So much better using snow than just turf!
