This sentence came out of no where, and it was more or less directed at the OP. Not you...but you still should rethink your assumption of women being stay at home moms and not getting compensation. Being a mom is a full time job.

And that's fine, no one is stopping her from doing that. But there is a certain pride that comes with being a parent, and some moms or dads would rather be the one to raise their children rather than a nanny, someone who is not a birth parent. Every situation is different.

oh i'm sorry, i thought you had replied to snowbirdmilfs reply to my comment about two working parents being able to afford a nanny. i thought we were still on the subject of having a nanny, in which you had said that if i were to get a nanny while i worked full time to provide for my family, i'd be an unfit father. but now that you've said "average families," i have no idea what we're talking about anymore. although i'm sure most families where the mother and father both work full time don't just leave their children at home alone.

This is true, in today's society both parents do have to work to make ends meet. There is definitely not as many stay at home parents as there used to be. But that still doesn't mean they can afford to pay a nanny, they're fucking expensive as hell.

well, you dont have to pay your wife an hourly wage. daycare is cheaper. im just telling you nannies are expensive, and theyre not just babysitters, and perhaps i associated a nanny with bad parenting because people who travel the world probably dont have time and shouldnt have kids.

and yes it is usually rather difficult to support a stay at home mom, unless you have a nice income. but its kind of hard when a woman has a child every two years to go to work all the time, so a lot of our parents stayed home for about 6-9 years taking care of the babies on mat. leave and etc.

and because this is such an issue this is why a lot of offices are now having daycares in the building and why the government regulates daycare prices in certain places.

two people making 30gs a year dont always have enough money to give their kids anything but each others hand me downs. especially if they have debt.

but you know, a lot of what goes on in our society is based on peoples home lives and environment. and call me out if you will, and say i learned nothing studying sociology and psychology and having had a life of experience myself.

24 hr nannies often lead to children with emotional issues. a lot of kids never outgrown their sense of abandonment in a lot of regular non nanny, stay at home households. and a lot of depression is stemmed from thoughts a child created in their mind about themselves at 6 years old, through their experiences with their first tastes of life.

a lot of you throw around insults for no reason, without backing or caring whether it bugs someone else. but im personally offended by gender issues, and i dont care if you all have fun throwing shit at me. a lot of you are uneducated, and just stupid, or in high school, so im pretty one up on all of those things.

but let's look at it this way:
there are men who provide all the monetary income for their families, and manage to afford it, while the woman may not provide any monetary income at all, but stays at home and takes care of the kids while dad is out providing for everyone. so everything can be paid for by one person.
if both parents are working full time jobs, and the income of one parent can fulfill all of the expectations that it would have to fulfill in the previous family, then it would be safe to assume that the income of another parent could probably afford a nanny. i'm not saying that each parents pays for eahc thing respectively, they would obviously split the expenses between each of their incomes, but either way, only maybe about half of the income goes toward all the things that it would go toward in a family with a stay at home mother. which leaves about half for a nanny, and one would assume that you can find a nanny who can be paid for an an entire full time income, hopefully less than that.

so it's either one parent is out making the money for the entire family, or two parents are out making the money for the entire family and a nanny. either way, any parents with money sense and a decent job would be able to figure out how to pay for the things they need to. if they can't do that, there is a welfare system. the simple fact is that you have to be prepared to provide for a family before you start building one.

daycares fall into the same category as nannies, either way the parent is paying a lot of money to have someone else take care of their child while they are at work.
24 hour nannies are a pretty rare case. most people have jobs where work and family can be balanced. you get up, feed your kids, get them dressed, you either drive them to the daycare or leave them with a annny, you go to work until the evening(or perhaps on of the parents comes home a bit earlier, if that's affordable), then the parents come home and spend time with their families until it's time for bed. it's not a complicated system, the only part that is complicated is the money, and either way that should have been figured out before the kids were born.
as far as gender issues go, the topic of a stay at home mom isn't a gender issue in the slightest. it might've been, back when women couldn't work, but now either parent can be a stay at home parent, or both parents can work. i don't like to argue about gender issues, because it's not an issue where i live, in canada. right now, the only thing a woman can't do is be included in the draft, and that's not a bad thing.

I totally understand what you're saying. But, you're also saying that a mom should get a job so she can create a job for someone to look after her own kids (she is going to be giving MORE than half of her paycheck to a nanny, unless she's well....rich). Again, nannies are expensive and if you're going to get one, you're not going to go for some run of the mill chick who has a degree that says she can take care of kids. You're not going to hire someone who can't look after your family as well as you. The people who get nannies get them because they don't have enough time in their day to give any attention to their kids. Which is a problem in itself. Those kids are attention starved and can only get what they need from someone who isn't their mom or dad.

And you're exactly right in that two people should not start a family unless they are financially stable enough to do so. Just as they shouldn't get married unless they are emotionally ready to do so.

Day care is much cheaper, trust me. They have programs such as head start for this, starting at age 3. Onto preschool, which gets them ready for kindergarten. Like I said, nannies are expensive, and different than day care. (and I didn't read the rest of your post here, just the first line, sowwy!)

oh i'm not saying a mom SHOULD get a job, just that she can if she chooses to because there are other people who will take care of her kids while she's at work. it just an option. i'm sure a lot of kids might grow up a little better if their mom or dad stayed at home, i'm not sure, and i have nothing against it at all. it's not the choice i would make, but i don't have anything against other people making it. it's the assumption that a stay at home parent is doing a better job than the parent who is making the money that annoys me. i know plenty of families with stay at home moms, where the dad doesn't just go to work, come home, and then sit around ignoring his family. and any family where that does happen, the mom should have known who she was marrying before she married him, she can't say that she was forced into it or anything like that.

day care is probably cheaper in most cases, because the care is divided between children, but it is still very expensive, as you are not only paying for the care of your children, but the facilities as well.

growing up, my sister and i were lucky enough have an after-school nanny, then we started going to another family's house after school, where a few of the other neighbourhood kids would also go (it was basically a daycare, but it felt more like going a friends house because all the kids were good friends and we basically grew up together for a few years, hard to explain but it didn't feel like a nanny or a daycare), then we went to a daycare at a facility, and that was alright but it wasn't very fun at all, and it was apparently more expensive than the previous situations. we still had plenty of time with our parents when they finished work, and then as soon as i was old enough to take care of myself i just took care of my sister as well until my parents finished work.
if my mom had stayed home, we wouldn't have as nice of a life as we do now, and she wouldn't have as great of a career as she does now. it might have been nice to hang out with my mom all day as a kid, but i think the daycares gave me a better social experience than i would have had with a stay at home mom. it's like homeschooling, in a way. sure, you might get better grades and get to hang out at home all day, but in the end you're missing out on that time with other people.
