Need Camera Help - Possibly Switching Brands

Alright well here is the story, I currently have a Canon, and my dad and brother are both under Nikon. Now I am considering switching over to Nikon because of the fact that I would have a few lenses I could use of theirs. I do not have very much money right now, so just looking to make the smartest move with my money. Ive looked into the cameras some, and I just feel like getting a D40/D50/D60 & D70/s would be a step down from an XT. If I switched, I would be looking at something like a D80, but those I would need to find some cash for.
Mostly what I can't decide is should I still with my camera, and buy a nice zoom lens & prime, or should I take a step down in the body and use some of my families lens's. I would prefer to stay with Canon, because their lower end bodies (my range) seem better than Nikon's, but Im tired of being the red-headed step child and not using the extra lens's.
Basically what I am looking for is to sell my XT & kit lens + $100 or so, and get a Nikon body that is equal/better than my Canon. Suggestions?

ya your kinda in a jiffy. if you did switch over your whole family could share lenses which would be sick because you wouldent have to buy all your own lenses... but then again, im not sure if youve had any experience with other lenses or primes but i think that should be your way to go. also if you have never shot with flashes there is so much more you could do with your camera. so which ever way you wanna go you have possibilities...
if it was me making the decision i would switch to nikon just because i like nikons a lot better and the fact that i would be able to have more lenses and all that

Idono why your talking about flashes, but yes I have a few and slaves for them. I also have experience with other lens's as I usually just take my brothers camera if I know I will need a zoom lens.

get a Canon EOS to Nikon adapter. That way you can use their lenses, which are higher quality, but still have the superior camera. They are cheap and they work well.
